It's application season and sometimes fear of rejections can keep us from applying to the places and programs we most wish to be studying at. In my experience, self-doubt is especially wide-spread amongst women in academia.

Applying to Oxford in 2022, it took a lot of convincing from people I trusted for me to see myself as someone with a chance at getting in - or of thriving in the kind of place I expected Oxford to be. For women, historically underrepresented in elite programs like ours, this is a common experience.
