It was an honour to meet Daragh Kelly, John O’Driscoll, Enda McNicholas, Roger McMorrow & Conor McCarthy in September. Incredible to see them finishing 3rd in a transatlantic rowing race, raising funds in honour of Saoirse O’Driscoll. 5,000km race in 39 days, 14 hours and 31min.

I welcome the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas which offers hope after a brutal 15 months of war. There must be an immediate surge in the much needed humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza.

Positive news on home building as a record 60,243 homes have commenced in 2024. That is an average 239 new homes every working day in 2024 - the highest number since records began. Home ownership will be our priority for the next 5 years.

Great to be in Rathgar this morning for a coffee with Regina Doherty for Dublin and some Dublin Fine Gael parliamentary party colleagues and coucillors. Grateful to them all for their work. Lovely to meet members of the local community too including AIB staff doing the goal mile.

In Armagh this evening for the 25th anniversary of the North South Ministerial Council. A really important meeting that should never be taken for granted.

A very busy day of meetings in the office today and the Christmas spirit is ramping up in government buildings, on my way to Armagh now for the 25th anniversary of the North South Ministerial Council.

Today we took the decision to intervene in South Africa’s International Court of Justice case against Israel under the Genocide Convention. I believe this is an important step from our country and shows our commitment to human rights, international law and the consistent application of it.

Today I hosted President El-Sisi of Egypt at Farmleigh. We discussed the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the fragile ceasefire in Lebanon and the fall of Assad in Syria. We also spoke of Irish / Egyptian relations and a number of important consular and trade matters.

The collapse of Assad’s oppressive regime in Syria is a positive development. The immediate focus must be on avoiding further instability in the region and power vacuums, safeguarding civilians, and ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition to a stable and democratic future.

Speaking on the Tonight Show about the formation of the next government. I am making it clear I want us to put our shoulder to the wheel and form a new government as soon as possible, get on with the job the people elected us for and deliver on the issues that matter
