I've been working on this autumnal still life in pastel this week, as I try to avoid watching a pot which is refusing to come to the boil. I'm calling it 'Harvest Festival' as it reminds me of the table of assorted things we used to assemble at primary school this term, all those years ago.

An acceptable use of an early Christmas tree at Waterstones, Bath yesterday for the launch of Murder at Christmas by Fleur Hitchcock & Ice Dancer by Alex Cotter. It's 10+ years since I wrote a book for younger readers, but children's book people are some of the finest. Lovely evening, fab books.

A cold, clear morning with a bright moon. I had a walk along the canal to the Holburne yesterday in mild air and sunshine, and then went to a book launch in the evening. Have a good day! xx

Overcast for most of yesterday, but Bella brings the sunshine with her and we focused on looking for colour in the trees and hedges on our big walk. Yesterday, oblivious of all the bad news, I went to a climbing centre on my own. Being afraid of heights and extremely risk averse, this sort of mild physical challenge is genuinely thrilling. Been working away at this. Quite a challenge. These steps down from Bathwick Fields towards the little alley to the canal will be familiar to many university folk, and I caught it at the start of term, when students were streaming down on a warm, sunny day. 'The Walk Into Town' - acrylic on paper.

A lovely wander around Batheaston Art Trail yesterday. I hadn't explored this one before, and am not very familiar with Batheaston so it was a bit of a treat to visit the venues and walk along unfamiliar lanes. Have a good day! xx

On the way to Swanage on Wednesday, I stopped the car and snapped some trees I've admired for 30 years or so. I think this might be a regular stopping point now, if I remember where it is in time. 'The Road To The South Coast - Late September' - pastel on acrylic paint.

Another beautiful day yesterday. I visited the Grow For Life walled garden at Newton St. Loe which runs therapeutic gardening sessions for people with depression, anxiety, isolation or low confidence. It's a calm & welcoming space & it was great to learn about what goes on there. Have a good day! xx

Clear, still & chilly this morning. Yesterday, we had all the weather - grey & warm in the morning when I joined a group of plein air painters in Henrietta Park in Bath, then a sunny interval as I dashed round the fields with Bella, and finally wind & rain in the evening. Phew! Have a good day! xx

Up before the lark today and it was so dark! A fox was barking very close to the house, but strangely the dogs ignored it. I think they were scared and were pretending it wasn't happening. Sunshine and showers yesterday, but we got out for some small dashes between downpours. Have a good day! xx

With the weather being so variable, I'm trying to have a walk when it's sunny. Yesterday, I managed a visit to Prior Park garden without getting rained on! The water is so clear and so shallow that we could see little grebes 'flying' underwater. Quite thrilling. Rain or shine, have a good day. xx

I noodled away at this paint and pastel depiction of Smallcombe cemetery this week. I've tried painting it before and haven't got anywhere. This is closer to what I wanted. Try, try and try again!

It's getting darker in the mornings now, but it was light enough to see a heron and kingfisher where the tide had gone out in a section of canal today. Yesterday I had two small bonus walks including one under a brooding sky, where the light on the boats was rather wonderful. Have a good day! xx

A nice bonus walk in the sunshine yesterday. I was wearing all the wrong things (draped in autumnal leopard print, when it was really tee shirt & shorts weather) but still made it up a big hill to the Sham Castle & back. A lovely walk to blow away the cobwebs. Have a good day! xx
