Respectfully disagree; from a relational egalitarian perspective, democracy is an essential part of a society in which everyone relates to each other as equals. Doesn't mean it should be prioritised above all else, especially if it gets in the way of social equality, but it's still an end.

Many liberal elites could benefit from some pride in their social role. They seem to be embarrassed about their elevated position, as if they don't have the right to be there, which becomes a self-fulfilling truth. We need liberal elites that believe in their own expertise and their own legitimacy.
