AB premier and education minister are doing telephone town hall with teachers. Shockingly enough, they pretend not to understand critical comments in the questions. 🤔

AB teachers have been invited to a telephone town hall with Smith and Nicolaides next week. They now have 90 minutes to hear about class size and complexity. Time they couldn’t find during over a year of negotiations, 16 school days of strike, or when 30 000 of us brought our message to the Leg. 😡

November 11 always reminds me of my grandparents. My Grandpa served with the RAF, and my Grandma took on roles not usually open to young women in Canada at the time. Their stories continue to shape me.

It’s Christmas market season! I saw these off duty reindeer at the Millarville Christmas Market in AB. It was pretty peoply, but always a nice outing.

UCP says they’ll have a committee to look at classroom complexity issues and that committee will guide their decision to hire 3000 new teachers. Hmmm. They already have a solution. Now they just need to manipulate the data to fit it. 🤔

What a shock that the UCP’s Covid vaccine suppression plan has resulted in Albertans unable to find a vaccine at any price. How long until Covid overwhelms our hospitals again?

I’m appreciating my foresight in moving this morning’s obligation from 9 to 10, but wishing I’d said 11. Between baseball, Halloween, and a truly dramatic work week, I’d happily hide in bed a while longer!

I was recently laid off by ARTnews, a few days before the theft at the Louvre. The terms of my TN work visa means I can't freelance unless I donate the funds to charity. I'm open to new FT roles in business reporting and communications, and am willing to relocate to other cities, including Toronto.

Just after midnight and I’m still alternating between the game and the AB legislature, where the ndp have been able to slow but not prevent the egregious violation of the Charter rights of Alberta teachers

All my teacher friends are discussing how we teach about government, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and representative democracy. The actions by the UCP today are going to have a greater influence on that unit than any misguided curriculum they may impose.

And the UCP has used the notwithstanding clause to end the teachers’ strike in Alberta. This is a huge blow to collective bargaining across the country. It’s time for organized labour to unite and force them to back away.

I’m watching Alberta Assembly TV to see how badly the UCP guts the rights of teachers. How ironic that they first have to honour a fallen former MLA, who was a longtime teacher, then sing the national anthem and have a land acknowledgment. I assume that all three acts offend many UCP members.

Today Alberta teachers, long treated disdainfully by the UCP, wait to see how badly their Charter rights will be violated. Every union member in AB and across the country should be paying attention.

Parents, the UCP kept your kids out of school for over 3 weeks and hasn't taken a single step since to improve learning conditions. What an insult to you, your kids and their teachers. And now they’re going to force teachers back to those same conditions.

The only way to book COVID vaccines for young children in Alberta is by calling 811 / HealthLink. Bookings opened Monday. It’s now Friday and the system is still saying call volumes are too high and auto-hanging-up on callers. 🙃 (They also cost $100 a pop, if you can ever get through.)

It’s pretty rich that AB education minister says a recall shouldn’t be used as a shortcut for triggering an election when he’s using back to work legislation as a shortcut to end the teachers’ strike. The UCP is deliberately destroying public services. Recall them all!!!

Today is the start of week 3 of AB teacher strike, with the UCP still showing no comprehension of the issues they’ve created in public education in the province. What a sad state of affairs when the government no longer cares what citizens want or need. Such arrogance in “our representatives.”

Will the inevitable delay In announcing election results in municipal elections today open Albertans’ eyes to what it means to be governed by a party who share or pander to conspiracy theories? This craziness has real consequences for health, education, and other services. Time to replace the UCP!

Trump says if you don’t go by the battle line in Russia’s war on Ukraine, it will be too complicated and you’ll never figure it out. Has the man never heard of (pre war) borders? Both countries could retreat behind theirs. I think they could figure out where those were.

Why does the UCP think AB teachers will voluntarily call off their strike while simultaneously agreeing to mediation that precludes addressing their chief concern? UCP resemble a toddler who covers their ears while repeating the same meaningless sounds. Albertans deserve a govt that listens.

With AB students finishing a second week out of school, I can’t believe the disrespect the UCP is showing towards kids, families, and teachers. Smith thinks she knows what the issue is better than people propping up the system. UCP refusal to negotiate shows their disdain for all but their base. 😡
