It's crazy that Marathon patches are near perfect every time

The wipes ARE for the casuals. The fun part of the game is doing quests, gearing up, becoming comfortable with your loot. If this game had longer seasons casuals would be facing cryo loot for a full 3 months before reset and they'd quit anyway. I also love wipe week in extraction games / ARPGs

I refer to enemy programming as "behaviours" now and don't both even touching the word AI for this reason. The issue is not other developers being confused it's the average person. Seeing "enemy AI" and assuming I mean that I'm using AI for the enemies. 😆

Fun fact: End's Reach was originally a bit of an RPG and a lot of the code exists under the hood. Enemies have behaviour for command structure, squads, leadership, retreating, etc Obviously absolutely none of that made it into the finished game and you betcha combing through it to fix bugs is fun.

I have to say, I'm getting pretty tired of waking up in the morning, sauntering over to my PC, and reading news of 1000's of people in my industry being laid off.

Originally I got mad reading this but what I will say is that you don’t need to worry about making better games than your inspiration. In my example I wanted a chance to make a game in the design space of Metroid or Zelda without relying on romhacking. There are plenty of creators who do this.
