So Keir Starmer's strategy on welfare cuts has essentially been to: 1) Fail to engage with Labour MPs before launching the policy 2) Ignore all warnings about a rebellion 3) U-Turn at the very last minute after the damage is done 4) Promise a new approach 5) Suspend the MPs anyway

Starmer doesn't need any smart new ideas. He doesn't need to chase Farage or offer a running commentary on the Glastonbury line-up. He simply needs to return to the promise of his first weeks in power: competence, determination and public service.
