The barber shop I went to on Friday is emailing me today asking if I need another haircut. Seems to indicate a lack of confidence in their work.

Imagine that the Founding Fathers come back to check on America every 250 years on July 4, and during their briefing they're told that the King of England has been attempting in vain to convince the President to recommit America to democracy.

*More than six times*? I don't know if there's a movie that I've seen more than twice as an adult. If I want to hit numbers like that, I've got to go back to early childhood.

Just realized that when you pick up a prescription at Walgreen's they print a QR code on the lid that identifies both you and your prescription. I guess that means I need to... shred these before disposing of them or something?

Absolutely wild Wordle today. Got all but the last letter by guess 3 and then couldn't make a single word from the remaining letters. Had to guess the letter that sounded least wrong. Then had to Google the word after I got it to find out what it was.

Happened to see Billy Wilder's "Ace in the Hole" with Kirk Douglas, a movie I'd never heard of before. This should be a film everyone has heard of, and I think maybe the only reason it isn't is that they made a really dumb mistake and failed to stick the landing.

Actual thing I, a professional software engineer, wrote a year ago and found today: void gotApple() { ++bananas; } void gotBanana() { ++apples; } int howMuchFruit() const { return apples + bananas; } This has been running in production. Fortunately all access goes through these 3 functions.

Someone advocating cursive education in schools claimed there was a "wide body of research" showing it was a good thing. So I asked to see some. He didn't have any. When I said it was bad to make up claims like that, he blocked me.

A viral dog rescue from 2016 is now immortalized with a statue in Kazakhstan. When a dog fell into the Sayran reservoir, bystanders formed a human chain to pull him to safety. The statue is a reminder of the value of unity, solidarity and collective action. 14/10 for all

One thing I'm noticing spreadsheets lack is a lightweight way to insert and reorder rows. Yes, you can use ALT+I, R and CTRL+SHIFT+SPACE, CTRL+X, ALT+I, R, CTRL+V respectively, but that's a lot more work than it would be to do the same thing in a text processor.

Why does imdb default to showing producer credits about acting and directing credits? Many times I've tried to look up a movie that I remember someone acted in or maybe directed. Zero times have I said, "hey, what was that movie? I remember that Ben Stiller PRODUCED IT."

Trump Says 'I Guess' Americans Should Worry About Iran Retaliating on U.S. Soil: 'Like I Said, Some People Will Die'
In an interview with 'Time,' President Donald Trump acknowledged the possibility that Iran retaliates with attacks on U.S. soil, saying, 'We think about it all the time. We plan for it'

I dunno of this is real or something invented for a plot point, but if I'm ever murdered nobody had better cut my murderer a deal for revealing the location of my body. It's a dead body. You don't need it for anything.

I think people often do "describe X poorly" wrong. Here's my attempts to do it right: * Man leaves government job over handling of pandemic * Bartender doesn't show up for work after playing video game all night * Drunk cleans up neighborhood after turning over new leaf

Did not realize how weak of a constraint it is for words to fit into a grid like ZYMES YOUTH MUSHY ETHYL SHYLY There is just one constraint on each word in the list, coming from the words before it. By my count, using a dictionary with 8,636 five-letter words, there are 5.5 million such grids!

Reminder that the stock market should always be (and basically *is* always) at an all-time high. If it's not, that basically means that almost 200 million of us went to work every day and collectively produced less than nothing. That's not the work of the White House. That's the work of us.

Post a banger that's not in English "The Gereg" by The HU I randomly happened to walk past a live performance by this group and it was insane. Unfortunately most of their online videos start with extremely long cinematic intros and the mixing doesn't convey the experience of seeing them live.
