City Council presented a Proclamation honoring Deputy City Attorney Fritz Orlieb’s over 38 years of service w/ the City of San Diego! Beginning as a legal intern in 1986, Fritz went on to advise the City on many major projects, including clean water, waste management & energy.

Today, City Council presented a proclamation honoring Ast. Chief Mike Holden’s retirement. Ast. Chief Holden served at multiple divisions during his nearly 30 years with San Diego PD, eventually serving as Assistant Chief of Operations.

I was honored to attend The LGBTQ Center’s second annual Luminaries Luncheon, celebrating the incredible local leaders & organizations working every day to uplift and protect our LGBTQ+ community. Together, we’re building a safer, healthier, and more inclusive San Diego for all.

Due to scheduling conflicts, to ensure maximum participation, and due to the importance of the smart streetlights item, the Public Safety Committee meeting has been moved from June 18th to June 27th at 1:00pm, where we will hear the 2025 Annual Surveillance Report (including smart streetlights).

Proud to walk alongside Economic Development Department staff as we visited small businesses in Scripps Ranch. Whether it’s securing the proper permits or addressing issues with city services, we’re working together to ensure these businesses have the resources they need to thrive.

The Summer Reading Program at our Rancho Peñasquitos Branch Library is here! My staff had so much fun helping kick off this annual tradition that encourages readers of all ages to dive into new adventures through books.

The FY 2026 Budget just passed San Diego City Council! I cannot thank you enough for your thousands of calls, emails, and petition signatures. Your advocacy was a key factor in getting our community’s budget priorities included.

Yesterday, I had the solemn honor of attending the San Diego County Regional Law Enforcement Memorial to pay tribute to the brave heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty—including San Diego Police Officer Austin Machitar and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent Jeffrey Kanas.

Last week, Environmental Services Department (ESD) helped Sabre Springs residents remove 62.25 tons of waste during the Major Cleanup—11.65 tons of recyclables and 50.60 tons of non-recyclables. Huge thanks to ESD and its staff for a very productive turnout, and to the residents who participated!
