Delighted that Andor and Slow Horses both performed well at The Emmys. Still mind boggling that The Pitt hasn't released here yet (hopefully soon). Some catching up to do on a few of the shows.

So many of this year's awards films are about grief. Can we have a year without constant weepies?

New Spike Lee and PTA's next month.

Massive irony in having one of the best casts for any Star Wars movie but with the worst director. I mean maybe the cast can make it good who knows.

Saw a post about Big Fish and it reminded me how many great directors Ewan McGregor was working with in the 90s up to the mid 00s. Tim Burton, Baz Luhrmann, Ridley Scott, Danny Boyle, Todd Haynes, Bill Forsyth. Outside of his work with GDT and Flanagan in the past decade he hasn't come close.

I don't think it's necessarily bad, but that IndieWire 70s list is pretty wild. Feels like they tried to cram in a few too many obscure choices to be different to the usual lists. Anyway, more to go on the to watch list.

I'm fully here for McConaissance 2.0. Both his next two films sound great.

I will once again be covering #LFF this year for a few outlets. Look forward to seeing many familiar faces and some new ones.

An interesting toss up for music heads. Van Morrison or Neil Young? I've personally always been more drawn to Van but appreciating Neil more of late. Those early Morrison records probably eclipse anything Neil's released imo.

With this and a new P&P in development it really does feel like we've run out of ideas. Surely there's some Austen's (or Dickens for that matter) that haven't been adapted multiple times. I guess every British actor has to be in one of these at some point.

I am beyond fed up with the term 'dad movie'. Its a bit like 'yacht rock'. Just because something is about cars doesn't mean it can't be accessible/good.

Finally seeing Pulp tomorrow and genuinely can't wait. Been a fan for as long as I can remember and it'll be a treat to hear the new material.

Managed to get another free month of MUBI, what should I prioritise? I haven't seen The Substance or Queer yet so those are first up.

I had a great time with Life of Chuck which made me want to read the source material straight away. Mark Hamill and Benjamin Pajak in particular are excellent. Also has a great set of needle drops. Look forward to watching again.

For TechAdvisor, I took a look at why Fallout would have been a more satisfactory end point for the Mission: Impossible franchise. A stronger 2 part story with possibly the series' best villain and a high point for action films in the 21st Century. www.techadvisor.com/article/2792...

Between Andor and Sentimental Value (among other things) Stellan Skarsgård really is cementing his legacy. Hopefully he has plenty more projects in him yet.

Don't think Wes Anderson has particularly lost his magic or anything. I think part of the problem is that he's been far more prolific lately so the films feel less of an event. As such the style feels less unique. Still excited for Phonecian.

Really can't be bothered with any more live action remakes but then these reactions to Lilo and Stitch and HTTYD come out.

Linklater and Soderbergh releasing multiple films in the same year. My boys.

The next two months are so ridiculously stacked for film releases there is a good chance a lot of them will end up underperforming. Strike hangover for sure but there's not really a chance for any of them to have long legs with so many major franchise projects. Interested what will do best.

Still think Dead Reckoning is messy and has some very clunky dialogue and plotting but even so there's still some insane stunt work and Vanessa Kirby/Hayley Atwell are great.

Any Neil Young heads. What are the best albums to go for? Do want to check out more of his stuff.
