You know what makes me the most sad is that if any of my friends had taken my advice 7 years ago and gotten their passports or saved for an overseas move, I could have brought them all to Asia.

You can add a setting which forces you to add alt text as well so you don’t forget. Another pet peeve is using alt text to add jokes or stuff like that. Might as well add nothing. I view it as a chance to describe as much as possible.

To add to this, if you post screenshots from another platform, include the date stamp and any relevant information for it to be fact checked.

On top of that, it helps you to have a proper think about what you're posting, something we all need to do more often.

Also, equally important, for images that consist of screenshotted text, the ALT should contain *all of that text*! It’s easy to do — usually you can just select all the text in the original image, and copy-paste it into the ALT box. Takes less than 30 seconds!

Alt text won't kill you. It gives context. In this time of rampant misinformation, lies, fake content and a growing population that lacks critical thinking and research initiative, posting images with no ALT and no context is lazy and unhelpful. Be part of the solution online. It is that serious.
