What a lovely surprise! A neighbor (who I say hello to but don’t know) brought me peppers and tomatoes this morning as a thank you for letting him take a cutting from my fig tree the other day. I was so happy that someone asked first, and a thank you was more than enough. World seems better today!

These spotted lanternflies are strong and fast - they spring away like giant grasshoppers. I slapped one with my shoe and it just disappeared.

Twice in the last week or two, the postal carrier has left a fancy flyer for a Russian restaurant in Shaw. As I was working on a pile to recycle, I googled the place, thinking the place was brand new. It isn’t but I had never heard of it. It has even triggered a fake site on cultural appropriation.

Have always been fascinated by churches converted to condos but have never seen a house abutting a church. This house in Bloomingdale has a deck and a garage “wall” with stained glass windows!

Walked Florida/UStreet to 14th, then took the bus to Columbia Heights. I saw an MPD officer helping a feeble woman across the street in CH and a single MPD cruiser pulled over with a scooter south of Florida. . Maybe everyone else has Saturday off? But there were fewer vendors in CH than I remember.

100 years ago-a permit was issued for the last vacant lot on North Capitol in Bloomingdale. In pic, the 1925 house is on the right; the houses to the left were built in 1923. The new rowhouse is 25’ wide. The others are 17 3/4’ wide, pretty average for the neighborhood. That’s a huge difference!

Thanks to ANC5E02 Lewis for this evening’s community walk. We saw lots of rats, a couple of dead ones and a lot of live ones. Lots of trash issues. And, of course, our emergency services were active at North Capitol and Florida.
