Inflation & student loan payments are harming Gen-Z credit scores. At Redfin, we see this as a threat to housing security. Bad credit can make it harder to find an apartment and more expensive to get a mortgage to buy a home.

The Fed cut interest rates for the first time this year. Mortgage rates have already come down in anticipation of this news, and Redfin agents report this has led to more activity among homebuyers looking to take advantage of lower mortgage rates when it's still a buyers' market in most of the U.S.

Mortgage rates (30-yr fixed) now down to 6.15% according to mortgage news daily. I'm not sure if homebuyers will take notice before we get to 5.99%. But if you aren't susceptible to left digit-bias, you can take advantage of cheaper mortgages in this buyers' market.

Forget the Fed meeting. This Friday's jobs report is the real mover of mortgage rates. A weak report could send rates to the low 6s, while a strong one could push them to 6.8%. For anyone favoriting homes on Redfin, waiting to make a move in the housing market, this is the number to watch.
