I’m spending a couple days looking after a friend who broke her knee while her other caregivers are out of town. She’s someone who is always taking care of others and never has time for herself so the forced rest has been a big change for her!

How about a short recommendation thread of my favorite books I read in 2025? This was a very rough year for me personally, and would have been even if everything was fine in the world in general, so it’s no surprise that almost everything I read was fantasy or escapist in some sense.

I’ve been considering expanding my business to wholesale, so I stopped by a shop I think would be a good fit for my cookies just to gauge interest and they were very enthusiastic! I don’t yet have my wholesale license and we haven’t talked wholesale pricing so early days still but encouraging 👍

Our local Chinese restaurant was only half full when we arrived a little before 12:30 so I thought “oh this will actually be chill” but by 1:00 it was SLAMMED They had a special limited menu for the day to make it easier on staff and they were still a little overwhelmed Tasty though!

Well I did not make the Dutch baby I’d planned to, but I did make the apple-cinnamon filling I’d planned to serve them with and it was fantastic on top of some softened oats with walnuts and full fat Greek yogurt

Just realized that the slight disorientation I’ve been feeling this afternoon is a little vertigo. Fortunately my mom taught me about the Epley maneuver years ago so I’m not too concerned! Thanks Mom 🩷

Woke up to a flash flood warning (I’m safe, don’t worry) which I’m using as my excuse to go NOWHERE. Just holed up here in my little house, snug as a bug in a rug. Get the mail from the porch? Sorry I can’t, there’s a flash flood warning. Restock toilet paper from the garage? Nope, too dangerous!

On a day like today I really miss having cats. I just want a fuzzy baby to cuddle up in my lap and purr! I’m not prepared to take on responsibility for a cat right now though so I’ll just keep watching cat videos I guess

Hanukkah starts in two days so here’s a timely tip: the latkes with the crispiest outside don’t have any flour, just sub in pure potato starch for flour and be amazed. As a bonus this also makes them gluten free so more people can enjoy them, but honestly do it even if you don’t care about that.

Thanks to this post I suggested to my family (also mixed-faith though a generation removed) that we do Chinese for Christmas this year too and everyone was very enthusiastic, I’m excited

This crust was an experiment, one I’m mostly happy with but it is SO short that it barely holds together enough to get from the fork to your mouth. Needs either less fat or more water, I suppose I will just have to make more pastry-based desserts in future, woe is me 😀
