Around 30th June 1632 Edward, Baron Vaux, and Elizabeth Howard married 5 weeks after the death of her 1st husband William Knollys, Earl Banbury. They had been teenage sweethearts; she was compelled to marry the 40 years older William. Edward believed to be the father of her children with William.

He left his son Louis in Calais as security for the ransom; Louis escaped three years later so John voluntarily returned to England as a matter of honour dying 3 months later.
