The amount of shit Axl Rose still gets, and the assumptions people still make about him, fucking baffles me. Dude's been one of the good guys for longer than some of you have been alive. These are often the same people that will rant about grace, change, rehabilitation, growth, etc. Like what?

Just finished the final listen-through to the new Aberrant Extermination Impulsion album. Trying to decide on a few songs to give you guys early, but it's so fucking hard to pick. The whole thing fucking slaps. It's taking everything I have not to just dump the whole thing early.

If you're the smartest, most talented, most knowledgeable, and/or most successful person in the room... ...you're in the wrong room.

Strive for perfection. But do not let perfect be the enemy of good. I am writing this as I work on music, but apply it however and wherever you need to.

Melodeath has become an interesting genre for me to try to discuss with folks. I listen to Vehemence - "God Was Created" You listen to Arch Enemy - "War Eternal" We are not the same.

I was, for a time as a young adult, very politically outspoken/active. As time went on, I got burnt out. I also ended up settling down, with a successful business, hobbies, music career, etc...slowly withdrawing as I got older. The sheer insanity of MAGA and Trump 2.0 ended up dragging me back.

New Aberrant Extermination Impulsion album is...interesting. Not sure what you guys will think of it but it's a little more all over the place. Weird mash of grindcore, death metal, deathcore, punk, beatdown, and groove metal. It's still grindcore overall, but...way more dynamic than most GxC.

Rather amusing to watch Redditors and the public at large reeeeee over Spotify subscription increases, and then ramble about ethics and such as they switch to a cheaper service. You wouldn't be using streaming services at all if you actually gave *that* much of a fuck about ethics and artists.

BTW, that last rant wasn't a defense of AI art or outright lazy/sloppy production. It just pisses me off how hypocritical and/or ignorant most fans are, and someone has to speak up for the little guy once in a while. Buy your fucking music.

I don't think the average fan understands just how fucking expensive and time-consuming creating and delivering decent music is. EVEN IF you happen to have the knowledge/talent to do almost everything yourself. If you profess to like an album, tossing the artist $5-10 is not that much to ask.

1) Hot take day: Nothing gets under my skin more than when someone calls an album of mine an EP. It cheapens the time, effort, and cost of the release, and can often dissuade people from bothering with it. Podcasters, reviewers, fans....please learn the difference between an EP and an LP.

Albums I'm most proud of (so far), Part 7: Agony By Default - "Of Darkness and Solitude" [2025] AbD makes another appearance on the list b/c it's a rare case in which I was able to *successfully* follow up on a breakthrough LP (in this case, 2021's "A Serenade for Eternity"), AND do it on my own.

Albums I'm most proud of (so far), Part 6: Aberrant Extermination Impulsion - "Annihilate" [2026] I promise this isn't recency bias. I have never had more fun with a project than I've had with AEI. I've also never had more *purpose*. Long live grindcore.

Albums I'm most proud of (so far), Part 5: Underrot - "Where Darkness Dwells" [2025] Melodeath has always been my favorite genre by far, but it wasn't until this album that I was able to produce a pure, 100% melodeath release that encompassed everything I love about the genre.

Albums I'm most proud of (so far), Part 4: Ashes of Denial - "Cheap Thrills and Bitter Pills" [2021] Gritty '00s hard rock/post-grunge. I've always had a pet side project or two hanging around in this vein, as it's a guilty pleasure. I've often struggled to get it right, but I did with this one.

Albums I'm most proud of (so far), Part 3: Six Below Zero - "There Are More of Us Than There Are of Them" [2024] The most popular/successful SBZ album so far. Politically-charged, heavy metallic hardcore at a time where we all needed it the most, methinks. I was pissed and needed to vent.

Albums I'm most proud of (so far); Part 2: Silence Before the Storm - "The Only Way Out Is Through" [2021] Old school, heavy melodic metalcore with melodeath and groove influence, this was also a personal breakthough for me thanks to the influence of producer Johnny Dove. Raw, heavy shit.

Today I'm gonna do a little series: Albums I'm most proud of (so far). Part 1: Agony By Default - "A Serenade for Eternity" This was the "breakthrough" album for ABD. I teamed up with my friend Johnny Dove to create a modern-yet-raw symphonic BM LP that blew away anything I had ever done before.

I tend to work creatively in bursts. Short period of pumping out material like there's absolutely no tomorrow...followed by a period of intense burnout and radio silence, where I can't even open my DAW. Been this way for years. I try to pace myself, but it never works. Lol.

Normalize the changing of opinions when presented with new information. It's a sign of intelligence, not weakness.

Watching everyone go apeshit over Bandcamp Friday as usual, and watching friends and fellow musicians make a ton of sales, is definitely a gut punch. But I stand by pulling all my bands' shit from the platform. Sometimes you have to sacrifice to stand up for what you believe in.

It's always hard to take a vocal stand about various issues as a small business in the middle of THE Trumpiest state in the US. But this year, I very much woke up and chose violence. Check back on me in a year to make sure I'm not homeless, lmao.

Setting aside the illusion of me exclusively being some angry gruff metalhead elitist... This whole recent wave of female-fronted pop-rock (Yours Truly, Senses, Charlotte Sands, etc.) is fucking sick and I love it. I need more. Almost seems like a manufactured trend but I don't fucking care.

It took me until age 41 and getting involved in grindcore again for the first time in almost 20 yrs to discover my true, full range of vocal ability. Similarly, Phil Bozeman turned in arguably the best vocal performance of his career at 40. It's never too late to improve and try new things.

For the second time in the last year a property within a couple hundred yards of mine has gone up in flames. FFS; I moved out into the county to *get away* from idiots and other people's bullshit. Lol.

I'm gonna catch a ton of flak from folks (especially my metal homies) over this, but: Trapt. I was unironically a huge Trapt fan and the majority of their discography is great. They have a ton of hidden gems, and CTB is a great songwriter and vocalist. (Last couple of albums notwithstanding.)

The brutal truth about being a musician: 99% of us will never see success, 99% of our friends and family don't give a fuck, 99% of the people who say they dig our shit don't actually listen to it, 99% of the people who stream our shit will never buy it, and 99% of promo doesn't produce results.

Idk who needs to hear this, but alienating other people (political allies, potential relationships of any kind, whatever) just because they don't agree with you on *every single political point in existence* is an insane bar to set. Not to mention narcissistic. Don't miss the forest for the trees.

One of the most difficult things a small business in the most pro-Trump state in the US can do is make any kind of statement or take a stand that doesn't toe the MAGA line. My wife and I take this risk often. I don't just ragepost. I don't just make protest music. I live my ideals every day IRL.

I just wanna say really quickly that I'm floored by the love Six Below Zero and Aberrant Extermination Impulsion have both gotten lately. Thank you all. These projects were born for reasons *completely* outside politics, but ended up serving as a cathartic outlet...and an avenue for messaging.

Purity tests and infighting are a really bizarre way to go about things right now. It's half the reason we're in this position, but I guess some people just can't help themselves.
