Memorial Day is a personal day for me and Laura. Today we’re thinking about the dozens of friends we served with who didn’t make it home, and many more who made it home but lost their lives to suicide.

I grew up going to church several times a week, especially during Lent. There’s something special about the way a church fish fry brings the community together. Cristo Rey’s Annual Fish Fry on Friday was exactly that.

Some of my earliest memories are in fire stations- tagging along with my dad, who taught CPR and volunteered as a firefighter on the side. That's where I first learned what real service looks like.
