Having a sub fielder sub in as wicketkeeper is a bit against the spirit of having a sub fielder, especially when you have another keeper who opens that you're trying to protect.

All nations & nationalisms are capable of wrong turns. But the sudden craze for Blood & Soil nationalism on the ultra-English right does seem quite a turn. One with huge consequences for the right & nature of politics. And in deliberate denial of what England & Englishness have been.

This is such an amazing album. Such a rich tapestry, it improves with every listen. Quite annoying it isn't on Spotify.

This week in the UK's managed decline, ITV are just showing Sky's coverage of the League Cup Final, not even bothering to have their own commentary.

weekend slot, I wrote about

and how to foment revolutionary praxis at an east London, non-league football club. It's a great story, some of which is reported from Naples.

A government advisor wrote a libel against London. Why did we believe it?
A book by the foreign secretary’s aide Ben Judah paints a disturbing picture of the capital, littered with racial stereotypes and falsehoods
