Charles Allen interregnum to say that the team is open to reducing parking, re-siting the garages, and kicking in for Metrorail (?). Allen's rightfully been a harsh critic of all this; imagine if the rest of the CMs held out for something more meaningful than a one-time CBA and *negotiated*.

Rand Paul: "Tariffs are taxes & when you put tax on a business it's always passed through as a cost, so there will be higher prices. There's an economic fallacy that trade deficits mean anything. They're artificial accounting. The only trade that means anything is the individual who buys something"

Justice Alito's dissent from last night's order has been published. He objects to the necessity of rushed relief, but notes that "[t]he Executive must proceed under the terms of our order in Trump v. J.G.G." - notice and opportunity to challenge removal.

The Supreme Court doesn't usually issue orders at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday while the lower court is still deliberating, the government hasn't responded, and one of the justices isn't finished writing a dissent.

Supreme Court rules 9-0 that the administration must "facilitate" the return of the guy they mistakenly deported to a prison in El Salvador. This echoes the reasoning of Circuit Judge Wilkinson, who wrote that the government can be ordered to facilitate, not effectuate, a return

There are only three tried and true ways to reduce a trade deficit: > Weaken your currency > Reduce your budget deficit > Crash your economy "Tariffing away" a trade deficit will not work unless it indirectly does one of those three ways

Senator Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) is currently 17 hours into a talking filibuster. Starting at 6:59PM ET last night, he is technically blocking the nomination of Harmett Dhillon as Asst. Attorney General for Civil Rights (though it's more opportunity, not a special objection to that nomination).

Tariffs will increase prices. Based on 2024 data, a blanket 25% tariff on imported cars and trucks will cost an average of $6,867 per vehicle. Higher car prices will leave Americans with fewer dollars to spend on other goods and services.
