When Surtr emerges to wage war on Midgard, his domain comes with him. Niflheim itself erupts out of the ground in patches around you, creating encampents of Surtr's minions. Somewhere in the sea, a massive volcanic island emerges, where you will find Surtr standing over his battle map. #conceptart

Here is where I break down the shader/texturing effects for Surtr's sword, and also break down the details of his chest piece. It's unglamorous, but this is what a lot of concept art actually looks like. Breakdowns that help enable the 3d artists to understand the intention. #conceptart

Surtr's sword. I'd mocked up the shader when I was working on the concept art, so when the final model came back I knew I needed to cook up an animated clip for it! We wound up using the clip to promote the soundtrack for season 3. That was delightful. Video and concept posts incoming. #gameart

The pet for the viking set! Plus initial explorations for the costume. Designing this drone was great. One of the fun things about sci-fi designs, especially something that doesn't need a lot of range of motion, is how early you get to focus on abstract shapes and just balancing things out.

I definitely went overkill on this concept. Cyber Viking set for Tribes. The arm in particular was a poor fit for our poly budget, but our 3d lead did a great job tweaking the design into something that worked. Wound up being a pretty popular set!

Looks like quote posting vs replying to yourself to add an update or other image both behave similarly. Both bring the original back up in your timeline and show the new stuff with it. Has anyone got thoughts on using one method versus the other?

Back to posting highlights from japan. Decided I'd put it on a scheduler or nothing would get posted! Okayama, stopped by the Oriental museum. What an unexpected gem.

Started my first kimchi the other day. 5 days till it's able to be opened, apparently you get more flavour if you ferment it longer. So rest assured, this is not an indecent brew. Just gotta wait until *at least* the 18th to crack it open.

Final concept for Loki's portal at the end of Tribes of Midgard's campaign. Scene in the portal was mocked up in Blender and painted over in Photoshop. FX and shaders all made in Blender. It's a lot easier to put an effect together for a still image than for a game!
