If you wanna inject some positivity into this world, my request to you is: If you like a creative person (artist, musician, craftsperson, literally anything), tell them you like their stuff. Doesn't have to be me, in fact I'd prefer it if it wasn't, but you'll make their day, I promise.

Sure, I use AI in all of my daily activities. Actual Intelligence. That other thing has no business mentioning the word "intelligence".

It's only 100 acres, so it should be pretty easy to shift the damn racist wall a bit to not cut through the center, but NO gotta destroy as much nature as possible. Fuck Trump and fuck the GOP.

Spent a few hours in the hills just entomologist-ing. It feels disingenuous to call myself an entomologist knowing I can never actually be hired as one, but DAMMIT I am one.

Honestly, not really looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. Jury duty felt like an activity where I made a difference and was respected; work feels like the place where I'm a replaceable drone with no hope of ever improving.

On one hand, I'm glad I prepped things far enough in advance that my current jury duty isn't interfering much with work. On the other hand, knowing that two week's worth of my job can be easily done by a couple of people during their slow times isn't encouraging. Maybe I am easily replaceable.

Just the other day I was noting that it seemed WAY too early in the year to see so many dragonflies out and about, then today I found a freshly-dead (intact, not a victim of a predator) green darner on my rain-soaked lawn. I think the weird weather is negatively affecting insect emergence timings.

I've spoken before about how Ybarra is not a game dev, does not understand games, and is just a grifter trying to make money off games. This continues to be true. AI will never be used by Prime8. We will always follow our craft as a journey, not a destination. The crafting of it is important too.

How exactly is ICE going to "help" TSA? The first thug to enter the airport is going to see a huge line of passengers, panic, tear-gas the entire place, then claim they felt threatened and try to detain everyone present.

Just spent a good chunk of the afternoon cleaning up leaves and pollen-based debris from the yard, WITHOUT using any obscenely noisy and gross gas-powered devices. I feel like I'm the only person in my zip code who knows how to perform this feat of magic.

Work was awful this week and has me questioning the future of my career, I haven't slept much in days, this weekend is going to be a PITA, and yet I somehow feel at peace and generally OK which is NOT a state of mind I'm familiar with. What is even happening?

I drew a bed bug during my lunch break today in an attempt to drown out the vicious brain weasels. It's smudgy and the proportions are off, but it's probably recognizable. Probably the first time I've sketched non-digitally in years.

It seems that the City of Sacramento has decided that having a day's accumulation of tree pollen on your street-parked car (during our notorious tree pollen season) means it's Abandoned and tagged for towing.

If GHS sold 10k copies we would be able to sustain work on it for a year. If it sold 20k copies we would be able to sustain work on it for both of us for a year. If we sold a million copies, we'd hire ~6 people and make another game.

Model and mimic: a clever longhorn beetle (Euderces reichei, at right) tries its best to look like a local carpenter ant, Campontous decipiens, as they both feed on a spring dogwood flower. Brackenridge Field Laboratory, Texas.

Did a VERY quick sampling of the backyard today and came up with two new species: a barklouse (Ectopsocus californicus) and an ichneumonid parasitoid (Orthocentrus sp). That brings my backyard insect species count up to 426!

Watermelon. Gross watery texture, insipid sweet taste, and you have to spit out the seeds (gross). Artificial watermelon candy flavor is gross and it's still 100x better than the real thing.
