Dan Fell Asleep on the Sofa, 1/15/2026. Ink drawing. Created in 1989. I take it as a compliment when someone feels so relaxed and comfortable that they fall asleep. For me, it becomes an opportunity to sketch.

1960s Programming, 1/15/2026 Ink drawing. Created in 1979. Like a scene from a dystopian novel, I saw the ubiquitous, eerie flicker of blue light glowing from the windows of houses as I walked late at night through the dark city of the 1960s.

Feeding Frenzy, 1/15/2026. Watercolor painting. I was gazing at the fish in the canal when I accidentally dropped a piece of food into the water - this was the visual result.

The Waldorf-Astoria Poster, 1/15/2026. Photo. I removed the backing from a framed print I bought at a thrift store and discovered a charming old poster. It has a subtle glitter to it, though that doesn’t come through in the photo.

The Varsity Lounge, January 13, 2026. Ink sketches, created in the 1980s and 1990s. The Varsity opened in 1941. It’s where my parents met, and my sister worked there for a while. It was a great place to relax, talk and sketch-the bar food was good, too.

Potluck Season Is Over(?), January 10, 2026. Digital painting. Created in 2025. I survived another year of potlucks. I enjoy the fellowship of getting together, but I always wonder: Do they know how to cook? Are there pet hairs in the food? Should this be refrigerated? Hmm… a lot of sneezing. 🤔

Marsha, 1/9/2026 Ink drawing. Created in 1981. Marsha waited tables at one of my favorite cafés, where she always made sure my coffee cup was full. It was a wonderful place to watch and meet people, especially after shows, when the café attracted a lively crowd of theatre folks.

Phil, 1/9/2026. Ink drawing. Created in 1977. I enjoyed late-night coffee and philosophical discussions with Phil. His café in the arts district of Indianapolis in the 1960s and 1970s was a favorite gathering place for poetry readings, music, and occasional dancing.
