At the start of the year, the trail ambassadors in Georgia had a big map of the trail closures and the reroutes. Glad to see it narrowed to 5 miles!

We were south of Hawk Mountain today installing check steps to prevent trail cupping! The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club has taught me a ton about trail maintenance. It is nice to go on trips this time of year where it isn't too hot.

AT Gateways is approaching! Its a popular day to start hiking the while Appalachian Trail. Last year I was working at basecamp, where I gave tags out to over 100 hikers! There's great speakers and vendors at this event, covering all things AT. Next year it'll be from February 27th to March 1st!

As a new section maintainer I get to enjoy working at Stover Creek Shelter and making sure everything is ok! I'm still learning a lot and know there's lots of work to be done on my section to improve drainage and keeping the trail intact!

BTW atm I'm volunteering with the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club. I basically help out all sorts of hikers, do some trail maintenance and stuff. Also gave a ride to a Canadian as he embarks on an AT Thruhike and he gave me real maple syrup!! #Appalachiantrail #Canada

Volunteers busting up illegal ground fire rings created by arsonists who don't understand that FIRE ARE BANNED in these locations. We can't get fire crews and their trucks in to such locations, the wild fires that people start by setting such fires some times kill people

And I'm back from Leave No Trace Training! Two days in the Georgia mountains and got to stay at Above the Clouds Hostel during it! Now me and the other attendees are certified as level 1 instructors. Now I have one more training in February then I'll be doing ambassador patrols in GA. #nature

As part of being leave no trace certified we each had to do a presentation on a topic. Mine is about human waste... so I 3d printed and painted something to be won in a quiz after my presentation! #Leavenotrace

It's unfortunate but the AT has seen a rise in people hiking it for social media. I've heard but do not know for a fact that this family was rude on trail and skipped sections. Ultimately some people are looking for their fame and free meals to hike the trail, with little regard for other hikers

Day 31 of the Appalachian Trail Got up and moving from the cemetery! After loosing a bit of my bear rope, we got up and kept going through Tennessee. Saw Mountainer Falls, gratefully we didn't fall there. We have 12 more miles to Boots Off Hostel tomorrow. #hiking #nature #Appalachiantrail
