I'll put good money on the fact that every time an Irishman of a certain age walks through the lingerie department with his significant other, he'll either a) make reference to or b) think about that Father Ted episode.

Smokehead (40%) and Smokehead unfiltered (46%). Samples provided by a friend. Really enjoyable peated Islay whisky. Distillery unknown. Enough of a difference that you'd think they were from different distilleries. Recommended at the price they are currently going for.

Bottlekill and its replacement. I've opened about 4 bottles of bourbon this year just to get a bit more experience with it. I'll be returning to opening Scottish and Irish whisk(e)y for the remainder of the year.

My first cork breakage.... Two groups of thought - leave it as is as the broken cork in the bottle won't affect the taste or decant into another bottle. Thoughts?

Been a while. Forgotten how good this was. Really creamy, viscous mouth feel too...

Midweek pints at the Duke of York, Belfast. Much more sedate affair compared to the last time I was there. No live music, which is not unexpected for a Wednesday. Still, a nice chilled vibe and could get a seat easily enough.

Once you notice it, you can’t unsee it: nobody on US TV shows ever finishes an alcoholic drink. They order it, or worse have one bought for them, say a line or two before moving on to their next trauma. Watch any of the Taylor Sheridan shows for prime examples of this. It pisses me off no end....

Doesn't really deserve the hype in my opinion. It's ok but it's nothing special....

If I was tasting these blind, I could be convinced they were from the same distillery. A lot of shared characteristics. The Arran wins it for its honeyed notes and a bit more refined on the finish. Winner: Arran #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Arran #Myagikyo

"If you liked this....then try this..." This has been niggling at me for a while... that these two Irish whiskies might not be too dissimilar to Springbank.... 😯😯😯

I enjoyed both of these and on another night I may have even picked the Silkie. Would be mood dependent. The RB is a big, unrepentant bag of red fruit to the face. The Silkie is more subtle and has the peat I typically enjoy. Winner: Redbreast #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Redbreast #Silkie
