I declared 2026 my Year of the Bourbon but I REALLY wanted to open this bottle!

Purchased this Two Stacks after trying (and really enjoying) the canned version. Bought in The Friend at Hand, Belfast.

Bottle kill and its replacement. 2025 I focused on increasing the number of Irish whiskeys in my collection. 2026 I'm going to do the same for US whiskey/bourbon. This is my first bottle of Buffalo Trace (the 45% version brought over by a work colleague - not the UK 40% version).

Not entirely sure what to expect...

Blending.... but still a single malt....

The 10yr old is more rounded and approachable, the FaH is livelier on the palate, certainly spicier. The tiniest bit of water really helps improve it. A draw because I can certainly see my mood determining which one of these that I want. Winner: Draw #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Bushmills

I’ll always enjoy Bushmills (I wish they’d release at 46% or above) but a peated whisk(e)y will generally beat it for me. Bushmills 10 was lovely and fruity but so was the Lagavulin - only the fruit had been chargrilled….. Winner: Bushmills #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Bushmills #Lagavulin

Both really enjoyable and the Deanston is going to win more than it loses but I love my peat so the Kilchoman just edges it. Despite being NAS, the Kilchoman does not taste like it's much younger compared to the Deanston. Winner: Machir Bay #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Kilchoman #Deanston

Been a while since I had either of these. Kilchoman obvious peat on the nose, LL less so and that always counted against it for me. It comes to life on the palate. At 57.7%, it has NO nip. Both have a lovely creamy mouth feel. Winner: Draw #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Kilchoman #LochLomond

For folks wondering how I decide which whiskies appear in my face-offs, I don't! I have a randomised selector (aka "The Gods of Random Whiskey") which chooses the whiskies for me. I just honour those choices.

Both very similar on the nose. Approachable. Honeyed notes, juicy fruit. The PJL was a bit spiky on the palate. The Green Spot more rounded. That gave it to the GS for me. Winner: Green Spot #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #GreenSpot #Powers

The Dingle was much fruitier on both nose and palate. Boiled sweets - cola cubes, a big bowl of red fruit. The Green Spot was more white fruit by comparison (apple). The GS was a little spicier. Both enjoyable. Winner: Dingle #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Dingle #GreenSpot

Which one are you going for? This will be interesting. I've not spent a lot of time with these whiskies, so I've no preconceived idea of which one I'll like more. Also a reflection on how much more Irish whiskey I've got in my collection now.

The LL is described as “heavily peated” but it doesn’t come through for me on the nose On the palate, it is lovely. I enjoy my whisky on the nose as much as the palate and the finish. The Deanston covers that spectrum nicely. Winner: Deanston #whiskey #whisky #Whiskeyfaceoff #Deanston #LochLomond

Trying something new. A sample from a friend. Young, a bit zesty, but coffee and sherry notes. Shows promise but needs more time in the cask.

Still unsure about the Jameson Black Barrel. Maybe it'll grow on me - very fruity and spicy (spikey)? Not getting any toffee that others have described. Wouldn't describe it as a daily sipper. But then, I've changed my mind before about whiskies so maybe this one too....?
