🧵 i always space having my bsky but i realized i needed a public forum to say “aloud” that today i am starting the meat of the work for an original graphic novel i plan to make 200+ pages. all my own characters, stories, environments. the works.

just got back from mini-vacay that was the stand-in for my birthday. went to raleigh to see a show, and i’ve wanted to see Ninja Sex Party for well over a decade. in a sea of 1500 people, i somehow managed to ride the tide and was basically in front near the end. and i-i saw…i saw… 💖✨him💖✨

i am in absolute shock. i’d done some research into the local moth populations a ways back, and have desperately tried to find luna moths for years. this morning, for the first time in my life, i saw a live luna moth in the wild!? i thought i was hallucinating! but look!!! 😭😭😭

i finally got through all my out-of-nowhere insane last-minute projects from last month. completely ignored my own birthday in that time so i’m going to just spend the week…being as dumb as life allows me. less brain starting today until like friday…yeah

i’ve had a couple of big projects that require all of my time and have wild deadlines. one i had to REALLY quickly piece together, but i’m pleased with how it turned out. impossibly this was an approved sketch, which i explained “please entertain that this is a man’s hand holding a tactical handgun”

cain’s entered senior territory and has been officially put on ocd meds. never too late to pursue your mental health wellness. love my medicated older king

even if i didn’t have it written down, i’d know it’s con season based solely on the amount of panicked last-minute needs/requests of regulars on the circuit. 😂 i miss everyone very much, and it does warm my heart knowing i still occupy a little dark corner of at least a small group of ppls’ brains.

cleaned for 6 hours. did tedious mandatory updates on pc for 6 more hours. didn’t hate self enough, filed own taxes as punishment for freelance work. another 2 hours. i’m finally here

after doing so many large acrylic paintings, my love for little gouache paintings in my sketchbook has intensified. distance truly makes the heart grow fonder

COMPLETELY caught up on commissions!!! i dangled a carrot in front of my face, which was my sketchbook. i haven’t allowed myself to do anything other than commissions the last month. but i’ve also been watching severance. i want to paint severance things. so. bad.

i don’t think i’ve ever painted or drawn anyone from the angle i had to paint and draw dean from. the blue steel shines from all angles. thank YOU, rachel!! 💕

i’m still not done with this commission, but absolutely aghast at how long it’s taken me. i’m usually intimidated by painting faces and capturing a likeness, but these two detailed off-white/cream colored costumes with like, blue reflections and yellow lighting…my brain…

have had to slow my roll big time this week thanks to a series of cluster headaches. i’ve managed to fight off a migraine i think, but i’ve lost a lot of painting time to it. so frustrating. when i try to literally work through it, i always end up having to re-paint over whatever i did 🥲

making slow but steady progress on commissions. 2 fully knocked out and shipped; the rest in progress. i had intended on having a lot of these done before feb, but because of the late canvas shipping, it’s pushed everything by about a week. 😪

spending my entire day, a beautiful afternoon, trapped in the hell that is the DMV. some people have already been here for 3 hours. some took a lunch break and still weren’t called. if i’ve learned nothing else, it’s that i never want to work here

I’VE DONE IT! i spent my entire day getting all of the commissions that came in sketched and primed. i’ve also emailed everyone with updates. i’m so upset i lost all those days, but happy for the progress. pet portraits all came in first, so those are first on the chopping block! 🔥🔥🔥

fedex lied about when my package of canvases would be here BUT IT WILL BE HERE TODAY! everyone that got a commission should expect a sketch today. there wasn’t supposed to be any wait but mail services have forsaken me

today is the first day i have full function of my brain and face at the same time!!! i was also able to spend mon-weds clocking in a little over 15 miles on the trail. that’s what i got for the ENTIRE WEEK last week. finally human again!!! 😭 also canvases for commissions finally in by tomorrow!!

i-i’m so…annoyed…my eye appt last thurs ended up costing almost DOUBLE what i predicted, same day one of my teeth thanos snapped itself, then found out one of my cats somehow picked up fleas, and over the weekend i slowly developed an AWFUL sinus infection. i can’t concentrate!! BUT WORK!!!

my absolute favorite 1 gallon water jug of 3 years EXPLODED last night. after years of being dropped directly onto cement or being tossed around on asphalt roads, the micro-fissures gave in. a sudden 2-foot drop onto a hardwood floor…and boom… oh, big bertha. you were the best drinking vessel.

i finally got the nerve to get myself this eye appt todayand…and then… lost my ride to the appt. scrambled to find another one. while in the process of doing this, i felt…crumbs…in my mouth? debris? what is this? teeth. one of my molars just. disintegrated. just, kind of, out of nowhere.

i’ve been raising plants in my room for the last 5 years or so, and my oldest (and tallest, at like 4’ tall!!) BLOOMED!! for the first time! i’m so excited it’s so pretty and it’s been yeeeears 😭

there are four cats in the house. only 2 with nearly all white fur. only one of them was here today. he decided to JUMP into the paint palette for these pages, and his dumb little paws are pink and green and purple now. this is why i can never paint with oils 💀

i’m seeing more and more art supplies pop up that have…AI on the front to advertise the product. the last one i saw was a cat on a box of colored pencils meant to represent how they worked. why..? what?? would’t it be better to just…not have an image at all? are there just NO artists involved?? 😭

have squid game s2 and iwtv sketchbook spreads planned, because how i wanted them to look finally came together in my head i also hit pan on my granulating gansai tambi because dammit despite the neon pigment being unscannable these paints slap so hard

construction on the bathroom today means i had to make the choice to be trapped in my room or have no access to it, and i chose trapped. which hilariously gave me time to work on this

i know that i’d hyperfixate, do it once, and then likely abandon it, but i’d love to bind ONE of my own sketchbooks this year. but…it is juuuuust unnecessary and expensive enough to be considered a goal, i think…. anyway, happy new year!
