First frost of the season in Dayton, Ohio (October 10, 2025). Relatively close reporting ASOS stations are at 40°F, but that's at 10 meters or ~30 feet elevation. The metal roofs of cars radiate heat more efficiently at lower elevation, so the morning dew froze. #ohwx #frostwarning

@JustonStrmRider and I were mesmerized by this incredible supercell structure as the Enderlin, North Dakota EF5 tornado was occurring! This was the first official NWS-assigned EF5 tornado rating since the infamous Moore, Oklahoma Tornado on May 20, 2013. #ndwx

September 27th, 1906: A hurricane made landfall in Mississippi. The storm was estimated to have been a Category 2. Damage was widespread on the Gulf Coast, with at least 130 people losing their lives and more than $19 million (1906 USD) being produced.

September 25th, 2015: In the early morning, a significant tornado struck Johns Island, South Carolina. 51 structures were impacted, including 33 that were severely damaged or destroyed. Thousands of trees were snapped or uprooted. No casualties were reported.

September 18, 1926: A Category 4 hurricane made landfall south of downtown Miami. The storm devastated southern Florida, with thousands of structures either damaged by surge or shredded by winds over 120-130 mph. At least 350 people (estimates vary) lost their lives.

September 16, 1999: Hurricane Floyd made landfall in North Carolina as a Category 2. The storm, which was one of the largest Atlantic hurricanes on record, brought devastating impacts (mainly flooding) to much of the Eastern Seaboard. Floyd caused 85 fatalities.

OTD 37 years ago, September 13, 1988, CAT 5 Hurricane Gilbert reached peak intensity over the Western Caribbean. Meanwhile, my 7 year old self was watching clouds from the fringe outerbands and outflow over the northwest Bahamas.

September 7th, 1998: A pair of derechos impacted the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The first traveled from Michigan to Long Island, and the other trekked through central New York and points east. Seven people were killed, 80 were injured, and >$130 million in damage was left behind.

September 7th, 2019: Hurricane Dorian made landfall in Nova Scotia after transitioning to a post-tropical cyclone. Throughout Atlantic Canada, the strongest gust recorded was 85 knots, and the highest-measured surge was 6.5'. Significant tree damage and flooding occurred.

August 30, 2008: Hurricane Gustav struck Cuba as a Category 4. The 155 mph winds damaged over 85,000 homes in the Pinar del Río province and caused massive agriculture losses. A local weather station recorded a 211 mph gust. Luckily, no fatalities were reported in the country.

We rode a small boat to dry ground, hiked, and then hitchhiked back to Oklahoma. We encountered many people who lost loved ones, homes, and almost everything along the way. Back in the relative safety of Oklahoma we watched the humanitarian disaster continue to unfold. #Katrina
