I don't post on Facebook or Instagram anymore, but I do occasionally scroll through to see pictures of family and such. Of course Facebook shows "Memories" to encourage you to post again. Not doing it there, but here I can say that this post from 9 years ago still totally describes me. No notes.

Chronic insomnia is cooking my brain again, which makes my writing very much a "Frye tries to play the holophoner" experience. It's a daily struggle. Weirdly, the fact that thanks to the BookBub I had recently, this is going to be my best month ever for sales, kind of makes it all feel WORSE?

On a more personal note, get a Bookbub, get a shit-ton of “marketing” emails using AI is totally still a thing. My actual fans are less… effusive.

The Namesake is a hella good movie. Although as a fan of Kal Penn, Tabu, the literary work of Nikolai Gogol, and above all the late Irrfan Khan, I feel like maybe the movie was only made for me in the first place. But it’s amazing.

I'm currently watching the second season of STARGATE SG-1 and playing TOMB RAIDER 2, in case you were wondering how far behind I am on pop culture. (Both are from late 1997, early 1998. By an amazing coincidence, my first child was born in November 1997. Just sayin'.) Totally enjoying both!

Hate to go super old school, but it’s always been “Burning Up” for me. Although “I’m a Sinner” is a decently close second.

Since the cornfields around my house have slowly become crowded developments, the coyotes have shifted south and our rabbit population went from zero to... way more than zero. I just took a bunny away from my pit bull. Trust me, the fact that this bunny was already dead was the best case scenario.

As a Kate who is not a Catherine, I love knowing this so much.

But speaking of not quitting my day job (we were, weren't we?), book 14 in the Viking Witch Mysteries drops in stores everywhere today. A bunch of you have already picked it up (thank you!). If it's as miserably hot where you are as it is here, enjoy a story of a town encased in cool delicious ice.

Everything I noodle with on my drawing tablet spends a large chunk of time in the "ugly middle," where nothing looks right and it feels kind of pointless to keep grinding at it. But this thing I'm working on now, when I was setting it in grayscale to check the values, actually looks kind of cool?

I just finished listening to all the files for an audiobook version of something I wrote in 2018. Which was really cool! I don’t remember anything about this story, but this writer really gets me. *shrug*

I have a randomly occurring health thing that turns my brain to pudding for weeks at a time. Every time it strikes, I try to keep writing. And every time it's over, I end up tossing all that work. I’m running some promo stacks on the first book in my YA mystery sci-fi series this week. I keep trading places at the top space opera spot with this book in a series called Starship Ass, and I must confess I’m curious about that one.

So far 2025 hasn't been great for me and finding time to make any art (beyond the writing, natch). But I'm working to turn fix that. This is pretty basic, and I only spent 90 minutes on it, but I kind of like how it turned out. And I wanted to have an Edward Elric for one of the frames in my room.

I *did* ask myself if I really needed another plushie for my writing desk. But then I saw what this guy does, and the answer was unquestionably yes. Listening to upbeat instrumental music and occasionally pausing my typing to cackle in glee? Yeah, that sums up my writing process most days.

I'm much better at writing books than remembering to tell people that I've written a book. So anyway, today the second book in my FORGOTTEN PLANET series drops in stores everywhere. It's called PLUNDERING THE PLANETARY SECRETS, and I'm quite proud of it (even if I have to force myself to say so).

Mugen had a benign mass removed from his back leg. Nothing worrisome, but let me tell you, keeping a rat terrier quiet and calm so he doesn’t pull his stitches is a full time job, even when he’s 13 years old. Just two more days to go.
