🎗️ 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 - 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟲 Digital health in cancer is increasingly about how data, tools, and care systems can work together to improve decisions and outcomes for patients. An example is 𝗲𝗖𝗔𝗡+, a European project coordinated by the 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺.

🎗️ 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 - 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟱 On this #EuropeanWeekAgainstCancer day dedicated to “Research”, one initiative deserves a closer look: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗕𝗲𝗖𝗥𝗔). Because how can we talk about cancer research in Belgium without mentioning it?

🎗️ 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 - 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟱 Today’s #EuropeanWeekAgainstCancer theme, “Research”, is at the heart of cancer progress, increasingly driven by the need to connect different types of data to better understand disease and improve patient outcomes.

🎗️ 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 - 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟰 When we speak about patients and survivors, the conversation often naturally shifts toward care pathways, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up in adult populations. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆, 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

🎗️ 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 - 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟰 Behind every cancer journey, there is more than diagnosis and treatment. In many ways, that is where the journey truly begins.

🎗️ 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 Today's theme highlights 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲. This is closely linked to the work of the 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺, which focuses on advancing precision medicine to improve cancer care and ensure equitable access to innovative approaches across Europe.

How can we better meet the needs of 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 & 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 with cancer? A Symposium took place at @sciensano.be last week under the theme "Empowering collaboration: Toward Integrated Cancer Care for AYA Patients". It brought together stakeholders committed to improving care for these patients.

Children are not “mini-adults”: their needs, voices and experiences are unique and must be recognised. A shift in mindset is needed 🔄 💡 A powerful reminder from a recent event on paediatric palliative care in Belgium, organised by the King Baudouin Foundation, where we represented @sciensano.be.

Pleased to have hosted this joint meeting at @sciensano.be! As a partner in both Joint Actions, we brought these initiatives together to explore concrete synergies, and making sure efforts reinforce each other where it matters most. Many thanks to all participants for the constructive exchanges.

At #BSMO2026 (6–7 Feb), Sciensano’s Cancer Centre presented a poster on long-term follow-up after #childhoodcancer in Belgium. A national survey across 7 paediatric haemato-oncology centres shows major heterogeneity, limited psychosocial integration, and a need for a shared paediatric–adult model.

Did you know? Last month, the GeNeo 2.0 clinical study officially kicked off. It aims to perform comprehensive gene profiling for 550 patients with metastatic solid tumors, allowing a national Molecular Tumor Board of experts will recommend the most appropriate treatment option for each patient.

The European Code Against Cancer has been published. It contains the 14 commandments for #CancerPrevention. Our colleague Marc Arbyn worked together with IARC on #CancerScreening where he was responsible for #CervicalCancer screening. 👉 cancer-code-europe.iarc.who.int

On 23 September, the European Joint Action #CancerWatch kicked-off in Oslo. Coordinated by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, it aims to transform how Europe collects, harmonises, and uses #cancerata. @sciensano.be will be involved in the work package 6 "Data quality and availability".
