Welcome to the weekend my friends!! I'm feeling in a Call of Cthulhu mood this evening so let's kick off Friday night with a few CoC games! First up returning for a 3rd time to #AthCon4 is GM Rita bringing along a opera themed horror game. Note - there are no muppets in it but I like muppets.

GM Graham is back and brings a classic retelling of Shakespeare's MacBeth with him!! So play a Thane of Scotland & ready arms as you prepare to meet your enemies on the battlefield! Only there's Orcs in this one. And it's called MacDeath And he's only using the Deathbringer system to retell it!

GM John returns to #AthCon4 and brings with him a 3rd Level D&D 5e game; Ashes of the White Banner. In the game the party is sent off to investigate the once loyal outpost of Dol Varnen which now flags black banners above Her walls. Something dark now is said to stir beneath the walls of the town.

I had to wait until after the watershed to review our next game as it's 3-time returning GM Amber's take on the Lewd Grannies game system; Grannies Gone Wild (and yes, I just typed that 😉). You play a Granny, amongst a table of Grannies, a Granny pose if you will, at your granddaughter's wedding!

Next game up a Candela Obscura one by returning GM Amélie. In this one, the party, onbehalf of The Circle of Restless, are sent on their way to investigate the mysterious death of a celebrity mystic! Bumps in the night, voices from the beyond all add up to some very spooky goings on indeed!

You know what?? It's been ages since we've had a pun heavy game tweet and I'm nothing if not a fun-gi! Next game is returning GM Ellen and Mushroom Marauders, a 10th level D&D 5e game that sees the party in all sorts of truffle! The locals have gone mushroomy and the party need to put a cap on it!

On this happy new year we've a Happy new game! As in the GM Happy who makes up approximately 50% of the Dopes & Dungeons crew. Both Happy and Horse came to their first #AthCon last year and loved it so much that they'll both be back at #AthCon4 Be sure to check out their live show in Feb!

New Year and we've a new game! An ever-present at the various AthCons throughout the ages,GM Tony ( @thedeafdm.bsky.social ) takes a seat once more at #AthCon4! First game of his we look at is a 8th Level D&D - The House Of Madness. It kicks off with a goblin in a top hat & goes on from there!

A bunch of well dressed "business associates" meet up in a warehouse after a "business meeting" with their "acquired assets" It all sounds perfectly legit to me I think. All they have to do is wait about until midnight, don't open anything and ignore that strange knocking noise.

You see this here is the problem with Kobolds; ypu lot all see them as cute little plot distractors and nothing more. Harmless mini dogs walking about on their hind legs who's only purpose in life is to provide party members with some comic relief and maybe a way to annoy the GM a bit.

While it was close, we resisted that last wafer thin mint so we made it through Xmas! We're still a bit too full to think about tweeting about games this evening but our appetite for such will certainly have returned by tomorrow! And at #AthCon4 we've some game menu to choose from......

Yup it's that cold!!! Aidan The Rookie GM returns to #AthCon4 after taking a year off last year to recharge ;-) And back with a great 2nd Level, D&D 5e game - Journey to Cinderhearth Hill. Winter just ain't quitting & the last hope for folks is an ancient legend of a magical fire underground!

You think we can get in a game blurb or two before the Big Fella arrives? You know what? I think we can!! GM Jude returns to #AthCon4 and no doubt brings with him a mini and terrain setup that leaves all us other GMs feeling an ever so slight twinge of envy ;-) Not sure we'll top #AthCon3 tortoise

So while last year's event was a tremendous success it did fall noticeably short in one critical area; Goose based RPGs. Thankfully at #AthCon4 we have corrected this oversight with not one but two games where players can fulfill the lifelong dream that we all have, gaming as a Goose.

Next game up on the block is returning GM Sean and his Shadowdark game; Adventures on the River of Night. For those not familiar with it Shadowdark is a similar system and feel to D&D. Just that the safety features have been removed you can certainly expect character death and backup characters!

GM Colin switches from Player to GM for @AthCon4 to take players through his D&D 5e game - Secrets of Sokol Keep. The lighthouse, sitting on the shores of Thom Island, hasn't shone in two days and the locals are getting more than a little worried! The party need to get over there and fast!!

Ahh welcome to the weekend my friends! Due to an unforeseen bout of laziness on my part we've been tweet light over the past few days and thus a bit of catching up is in order! First game up returning GM Matthias beams back down to AthCon for his Star Trek Adventurers game; First Contact.

You know what would make a game of Alien even more fun? And by fun I mean something that would add a few extra diceses to the Stress pool and help push that Players Survive O'Meter a few notches closer to zero? Why an Alien worshipping cult of course!! Said no one. Ever.

Next game up is a bit of a banger!! A two parter 5e D&D 20th level type banger! GM Gavin, having spent AthCons I to III scoping out what makes a great game, steps into the command chair at @AthCon4 and is most certainly not rolling dice in half measures! Ever wondered what 20th level felt like??

Our next game up for review at @AthCon4 is a GM Gus special as he runs his Kids On Bikes RPG which takes us all back to a time when we were kids... and rode bikes! Kids of the sleepy the town of Loughrea have noticed some strange behavior of pets combined with some odd individuals about the place!

Just like Santa's elves we're busy little minions at this the of year as we tweet about our second game of the night! In Downtrodden Abbey returning GM Cian S gives a fun Discworld twist to the life in an old Manor house! This particular Manor is filled with charming Ankh Morporkian traditions..

I don't buy that tectonic plates nonsense! In my experience of such matters, earthquakes are only ever caused by giant burrowing graboids! However in our next game, the players have been asked by the town of Quarry's Cradle to investigate recent ground disturbance and figure out exactly what's up!

Next game up we've GM Keith A's own take on the Honey Heist system. Around this table however, the players assume the roles of monsters looking for the ultimate crime payday - stealing the invaluable AthVentureCon Cup!! This was run last year and all players had a blast so expect more of the same!

We've an awful heap of games to tweet about between now and @AthCon4 so we'd better get a tweetin! First game up is a 5e serving on Sunday afternoon by new to @AthCon4 GM Conor! Conor is part of Adventure League up in Dublin and is making the trip west with a group of mates.

After 3 nights & 2 full days that had a whopping 107 gaming tables (holding somewhere in the region of 550 gamers!) #AthCon3 is done. Once again, we've been wholeheartedly supported by our beautiful gaming community. Team #AthCon3 thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts. Tired/happy now.

So we have finally come to the end of our #AthCon3 game blurbs but we've kept something special last. Award winning game designer GM Padraig rocks up at #AthCon3 & brings his brand new Warhammer The Old World system with him!! So be among the first to play The Old World & with the designer as GM!!

First time GM at the Con Sean is running a Mausritter game! In Mausritter (and no, I don't know how to pronounce it!!) you all play cute little miceses, taking up your cute little swords and getting in heroic, if somewhat miniature, adventures! You chance to play your very own mighty mouse!

With time ticking away we'd better hurry & get the last few game tweets out! Next up a GM who boasts a perfect attendance record at AthCons! GM Shane is running two sessions of the Household RPG system where the players become the little folks (fairies, sprites etc) & have free run of the gaff!

Next up we'll take a peek at GM Mark's ever so fancy game. You can keep your tatty old fold out battlemaps! GM Mark has evolved beyond sure primitive tools & instead uses an interactive projector table top. 'Where is your interactive projector table top' you will hear him cry all during #AthCon3!

There's a lot of excitement around the games and activities, but there should be just as much about the talent that will be in the vendor hall 😍

At AthCon2 GM Mike ran a few tables of the pirates adventure game Crimson Cutlass. His games proved ridiculously popular. So much so that legend has it that in one session 10 pirates sat around the table! Somehow the numbers didn't scare GM Mike off & at #AthCon3 the adventure continues!

GM Ciaran, (who you may know as the brains part of the Dopes & Dragons podcast duo!) makes it along to his first ever AthCon and we are delighted to have him along! The Sablewood Messenger is one of two games he's running over the weekend and this one is the excellent Daggerheart system.

Sitting in a cozy tavern, surrounded by mates, the first round of drinks (fizzy orange all round!) has just been delivered. Picking up the glass you lick your lips savoring the moment. When a guy kicks in the door screaming on and on about his kids being taken by some monster. Urrgh. Civilians.

You know that dragons are overrated right? Like who do they think that they are fooling with all that firey breath. And claw attacks. And spells. And biting people? And legendary resistance? Like seriously, they're not all that great. Our next game gives you a chance to prove out my theory!
