Last week we had an exciting Production Meeting for this year's panto, Sleeping Beauty! ✨ Here's our fantastic Set Designer Ian Westbrook, who designs beautiful cloths of Cambridge locations for us. You can also see our model box (a mini replica of our stage and set design !).

We've dug through the theatre's archive to uncover some hidden gems... Here's a photo of St Edward's Passage back in 1957, which was kindly sent to us by a customer. This photograph was taken by Lionel Harris. It won first place in the Maidenhead Photographic Society's monthly competition.

Our Technical team accepted a very exciting delivery last week... New lighting equipment for our soon-to-be transformed auditorium! 👏 This is a MAC Viper XIP, a movable light that we can use for general lighting and follow spots, and as you can see from the background - the delivery was a big one!

The power of social media! After announcing our Time Capsule project, a follower (who worked here during the 1990s) told us about a time capsule they'd hidden during a previous refurbishment, which we had no idea about! We chatted, dug through an archive... and here it is.

Guess what? We're hiding a time capsule! 🎭✨ To celebrate our incredible redevelopment project we will be placing a time capsule underneath the auditorium seating in our newly redesigned Circle, in the hope that it'll remain unseen and be discovered in decades to come.

Yesterday was a big day for our redevelopment project... the steelwork for our stunning new balcony arrived! The redesigned Circle will feature an elegant, curved balcony front. With the steel now on-site, things are about to move quickly - we can't wait to see the transformation take shape.

We are absolutely thrilled for Steven Roberts and Harry Howle, who won the Best Sisters Award at the UK Pantomime Awards last night! Steven and Harry were our Wicked Stepsisters in last year’s pantomime Cinderella… (Aren’t they adorable?!)

It was good to show Daniel the extensive renovation work underway at @camartstheatre.bsky.social and to discuss ambitious plans for a second auditorium. Great to have enthusiastic support from our MP.

Next up in our 'Lost Property' series... AKA all of the strange discoveries we unearth during our Redevelopment Project. Numerous archways were found in the Rear Stalls after the wooden paneling was removed. We don't have any old architectural plans, so we're unable to figure out their story.

Happy World Theatre Day! 🎭 It feels strange to be closed and celebrating #WorldTheatreDay but our exciting redevelopment plans are quickly progressing and we can't wait to unveil our new auditorium at the end of the year...

Did you know that as well as transforming our auditorium, huge changes are also being made to our backstage areas? The builders have been very busy and this is what the Green Room currently looks like... Our iconic green sofa is tucked away in the wooden box to prevent damage!

Last week we had a VIP visit from Cambridge's favourite pantomime star Matt Crosby! ✨ Matt had a look round the auditorium building works, as well as the dressing rooms and Green Room - it was fantastic to show him the progress so far and we can't wait to see him again soon!

Yesterday we welcomed back our fantastic Volunteers for tea, cake and a behind the scenes tour of the building work in our auditorium! It was lovely to have them back in the theatre and to show them the incredible transformation that's happened already. Here's a few photos of the day 📸

This week our building team have been screeding the floor... Did you know that a whopping 1,800 25kg bags of floor screed were required, and each was carried in by hand to remodel the auditorium floor! 👏

On Tuesday the ITV Anglia team were in the building to film interviews with our Co-Chief Executives Victoria and Rachel and our Architect Ian Chalk 📺 Here's a BTS photo of them in action!

Earlier this month we removed all 666 seats from our auditorium... and we are thrilled to donate 400 of them to the redevelopment of the Amulet Theatre in Shepton Mallet. 📸 by Jason Bryant

Fun fact: we unscrewed 666 plaques from our seats before they were removed from the auditorium. They stem back to our 1992-1996 'Buy A Seat' campaign and were purchased as gifts and often in memory of loved ones. Here's a few of our favourites (and some familiar names!)...

This is a redevelopment on an epic scale. The auditorium will be renovated beautifully in time for Panto 2025. We will make progress on a second auditorium creating an arts venue Cambridge can be proud of.

Our auditorium theatre masks have been removed! 🎭 This tragedy mask usually hangs above the Rylands Box and was installed during our auditorium refurb in the early 1990s. There's another identical mask above the Keynes Box and a comedy counterpart above the proscenium arch too.

It was all systems go yesterday as our auditorium seats were removed. It was an amazing sight to see and a very exciting start to the building work... Here's a during and after photo! Our old seats are being given new homes, and we'll be sharing those stories with you in the coming months.
