Their final night came to a close with a festival. Beautiful glowing waters, people swimming and kayaking under an aurora borealis, and a warm fire that attendees cooked at or hung out by. It was a fitting end to their first vacation together.

On their final day, Akira dragged Corbin to a nearby camp where the counselor taught archery lessons. Akira used to shoot with her father years ago but Corbin was not as prepared.

While working out, Akira gets spooked by the ghost of the man who passed. It's a small moment. Not a single soul saw it but it meant the world to her. This poor man thanked her for trying to save him and assured her he held no grudge. He wanted to ensure she'd feel no guilt before moving on.

Corbin also did his best to cheer her up once the hotel was quiet. While he was normally reserved to these type of things, he knew how much she liked risks and thrills. If it would make her smile again, he would embarrass himself every day.

Corbin encouraged Akira to try the hotel gym since she always loved working out and then the two split. Corbin received some piano lessons from another hotel guest while Akira decided to call Leroy and chat to get her mind off of the horrifying imagery of the night prior.

"Corbin I saw the Grim Reaper. I didn't even know he was real and he denied my plead. If I had just been quicker, that man would be alive. If I-" "Akira, it's not your fault. You tried to save him and that is what matters. I'm just happy you're safe. You scared the crap out of me after last night."

All good things can't last. A fire broke out during dinner. The staff member ran toward the nearest bathroom for water and Akira was the only one who tried to catch up to him with an extinguisher. She tried to save him, even pleaded to Grim, but failed. She had never seen death this close...

After exploring the piers, Akira stopped by a local store and purchased some jellyfish that the two grilled for a late lunch. It surprisingly tasted good.

On their second day, they embarked out to explore the town. Akira found a small stage on one of the piers and began to play. Corbin was captivated.

Hotel staff made grilled cheese for dinner. A bit basic but Corbin nor Akira were the type to be picky. Plus, the view of the stars over the lake was too good to complain. "I think I see something that shines much brighter than the sky," Corbin murmured. "Babe, that is beyond cheesy," she'd laugh.

That afternoon, the pair rented kayaks from the hotel to explore the lake. Akira hadn't been outside like this since she was a child exploring the wildness with her father. It was beautiful and a needed break from college.

Once they arrived to the hotel, they settled into their room. Akira was drawn to the balcony, settling down with a book on the shelf right by the glass door. Corbin immediately took advantage of the pitcher nearby and made them both some cold tea to relax with.

A: Corbin, how sweet. What is the occasion? As Akira read the note aloud, she gasped. A: A getaway?! Corbin where did you- Can we- C: I've got it covered. This will be our first vacation together. A: What will I ever do with you? I can't wait!

My coworker left this little doll on my desk last week after he covered an event related to the issue. His explanation was that it matched the other things on my desk and a Gen Z would love a phone standee. So, I’ve put it to use lol.
