Building with @htmx.org is so simple that it's exciting. Added a polling feature to update elements until a certain condition was met, and it took exactly 4 hx- HTML attributes and one {% if %} check in Django. All server-side. No APIs. No JS build pipelines. This really does change everything. 😅

Zen (@zen-browser.app) is such a good browser. I've spent so much time over the past months looking for the ability to have workspaces with isolated sessions, and it turns out that Zen is the only browser that gets the UX *right*. That feature alone made me instantly switch from Firefox.

I'm low-key thinking about moving my personal site out of Netlify to a VPS (behind nginx or something). Netlify build broke for some weird reason and it feels like a waste of time to debug vendor-specific issues. I'd much rather just scp a bunch of static files to a VPS and call it a day.

I've been building something new in my spare time and chose to maximize on simplicity. No APIs, no frontend/backend split, no cloud, next to no JavaScript. Just a Django app rendering all the HTML on the server running on a VPS in Hetzner deployed using Kamal. It's glorious.

Finished a half-marathon in under 2 hours today and my legs are definitely feeling it 😅

Looking to deploy a Django app on a VPS, and Kamal and Dokku stand out as the main options. I've used Kamal in the past, but spent the entire evening yesterday working around rbenv/rbenv-gemset hassles (Kamal requires a working Ruby installation 🤷🏻‍♂️). I think I'll just go with Dokku at this point.

Within the last few days I’ve transferred *two* domains out from Namecheap to Cloudflare. Why? Pricing. Cloudflare charges me literally half of what Namecheap charges for a one-year domain renewal. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I recall reading that LLMs may or may not 10x your productivity, but they definitely 10x the scope of what you can do. I'm building something new using opencode (github.com/sst/opencode) and Sonnet in an unfamiliar tech-stack (but I'm able to verify the results) and the scope thing is so on point!

I ended up going with Obsidian and like it a lot so far, especially the fact that on disk it’s all just Markdown.

Claude Code is super useful but on multiple occasions I’ve had to nudge it away from fixing symptoms instead of the cause. It’s kinda surprising how often people recommend using --dangerously-skip-permissions.

What note taking apps are you all using? I'm looking for something that can work with Markdown and can sync between macOS and iPhone. One-time payments are OK but I'd like to avoid subscriptions.

I've been vibe coding a developer CLI using Claude Code and the experience has been *ridiculously* wild. The Sonnet model gets very expensive very quickly but the time to get simple/bespoke software up and running now feels much smaller than it used to be.

Claude Code is wild. I just tried it for the first time this week and I can already see myself getting hooked.

I had to convert a book cover to a few different sizes/DPIs. After messing around with image editors (GIMP, Photopea, etc.) without much success, I asked GPT-4.1, got the perfect ImageMagick command, ran it, and it gave me all the images I needed in less than 2 seconds. Why wasn't this step #1? 😅

Finally, after a few weeks of work (evenings and weekends), personalfinancespython.com has been updated to reference Beancount 3! I also took this chance to freshen up the book's cover as well as the website. The git diff shows over 10k changes, making it a significant update. #buildinpublic

While using LLMs to generate images, it’s baffling (although not entirely surprising) how they sometimes insert random objects into the final output. I’ve been trying to iterate on a book cover but all these random edits feel like a waste of time, so I’m back to working in Canva now. 🤷🏻‍♂️
