These tariffs are not unexpected, but they are unwarranted. Many other countries will be hit harder by today’s decision than Australia - and no nation is better prepared than Australia.

The reason Trump has slapped tariffs on the entire world is not to protect American workers. What Trump cares about is being able to get concessions out of other countries and corporations that seek exemptions. It's all about his ability to hand out punishments and rewards.
