I'm gutted to share sad news that Captain went towards the rainbow bridge today. He was almost 16 years old and surrounded by love and compassion to the end. I just want everyone to know that he was the best boy and to look at him because he was the best. 💔

After playing Amazon Trail (1993) for DOS last night, and given we already play a whole bunch of other retro educational games, I think I should make a Hall of Fame for non-metric unit of measures.

Tonight, we played Super Solvers: Challenge of the Ancient Empires (1990) on DOS, which inserts superficial educational elements into a platformer. However, a player has to exercise planning, logic, and problem solving skills to pass each level, also important for any learner to practice!

Last DOSember, we played a bit of Mario's Time Machine (1993) and only managed to return a couple of artifacts. We saved at that point and only returned to this save game tonight 😹 We chipped away at it some more and now have put it away for next year! (Also, they really needed to proofread!)

For our inaugural DOSember 2025 stream, we played Math Rescue Plus (1992), a mathematics educational platforming game for elementary students to practice arithmetic operations and intepreting word problems. It's good for a variety of drills and just crazy enough to keep your interest for a while!

The embargo is over-it's the 5th annual recital concert thingy on December 21, 1 PM EST as my thank you for your support throughout the year! You are invited to attend an afternoon with an amateur violinist playing Final Fantasy covers from the NES/SNES era, and maybe say hello to Captain. 😺

We finally came across a retro educational game that teaches music theory in a deeper way-Julliard Music Adventure (1995)-without explicitly teaching modern notation. While it doesn't have a full music composition function, it was interesting and innovative!

Got a Fun Dip as a party favour recently, haven't had one since I was a kid. Despite being only one third of the usual 3-pack, it was still a lot of sugar ... On the plus side I had fun reliving this experience! 😹

Tonight, we discovered Mathosaurus (1989), an early edu Apple II math game. Besides extracting educational value, art from this era was also impressive. The dinos' expressions and animations were very cute! Here's a screen cap of a troupe of dinos suspicious of one another... 🦖🦕

This evening, we experienced Attentat 1942, a Czech narrative educational game from Charles Games about first-hand accounts of WWII. It was an emotionally difficult playthrough but necessary in the current context. I recommend history teachers to include this game for their lessons.
