The two years since the horrific attacks of 10/7 have been marked by profound grief and hardship inside and out of the Jewish community. We mourn those lost and pray for the safe return of hostages, an end to war and suffering, and a shared future of peace, security, and dignity for all people.

It was never about antisemitism on campus & always about control of higher education. Trump doesn’t care about Jews or antisemitism. He does care about ensuring universities bend to his will.

Trump is withholding $300M in science funding from UCLA based on antisemitism & inviting UCLA to “resolve this matter,” presumably by giving Trump control of the university. Having worked hard to stop antisemitism at UCLA & other UCs, I’ll say the following about this pretextual, fascist move:🧵

Our bill (AB 715) to put a stop to antisemitism in CA schools — protecting Jewish kids from being demonized/ostracized — is advancing, despite opposition by some who believe antisemitism doesn’t exist outside of Nazi circles. But antisemitism — “the oldest hatred” — does exist, across the spectrum.

Just days after a Jewish-owned business in the Mission was vandalized, including death threats against Jews, a violent antisemitic assault happened in the Marina. The normalization of antisemitic rhetoric on left & right leads to violence against Jews. We must have zero tolerance for antisemitism.

Two things can be true: 1. Antisemitism is real. It upends people’s lives. It results in Jews dying. 2. Antisemitism is being exploited by the non-Jewish, antisemitic fascists running our nation to justify their agenda. They use Jews as human shields. 2 undermines our efforts to put an end to 1.🧵

I stand in complete solidarity with our immigrant neighbors in Los Angeles who are being viciously targeted by ICE. These militaristic tactics will only serve to inflame tensions and make all of us less safe—all while taking one step closer to a police state. This won’t stay limited to LA.

The Jewish Caucus stands in solidarity with the Latino Caucus and all immigrants. Today we joined our Diversity Caucuses to speak with truth and clarity against Trump’s cruel attacks in LA and in support of our communities. We know intimately why this is wrong and we will never be silent.

The Jewish Caucus Released the following statement regarding raids by ICE.

In the past six weeks, people: —Murdered two at a Jewish community event in DC —Firebombed a Boulder Jewish community vigil —Firebombed Gov Josh Shapiro’s home Jews are 2% of the US but 15% of hate crimes & 68% of religion-based hate crimes. Failing to take antisemitism seriously is acceptance.

Trump just helped elect as President of Poland a Holocaust revisionist who courted Jew haters in his electoral coalition. Remember this next time Trump & his allies claim they’re attacking universities to protect Jews. They don’t care about Jews or antisemitism. They care about consolidating power.

My heart is with the Boulder and our Jewish community at large once again as we continue grappling with the rise of anti-semitic terrorism in this nation. It’s unbelievable.

Our prayers are with those harmed by the appalling attack on Jewish peace activists in Colorado, yet we affirm that prayer is not enough. Extreme and all too common rhetoric leads to violence against Jews and others. Our caucus will fight antisemitism and calls for our allies to do the same.

Our hearts are with the families of Sarah and Yaron. We ache for their lives lost. This was a horrendous act of antisemitic violence flowing from the extreme rhetoric that has become all too ubiquitous. As the California Legislative Jewish Caucus we will always fight antisemitism in all its forms.
