I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

Linda Tirado says it how it is. And sure, I've never been to the US of A. I only know what I saw in Ukraine over the forty years of my Ukrainian life. And I saw some pretty fucking similar things to what's happening in USA.

(1) Write genre from outside of it in, not the inside of it out. (2) Try not to model yourself on the best of genre writers, only on the best of writers. Obviously your choices there will be subjective, but the risk with genre is it's a rabbit hole. (3) Don't try to undo genre using its own tools.

I lived it: went to see Mario Bava's wonderful, gorgeous Black Sabbath at the New Beverly last night and afterward some guy in a This Is My Costume t-shirt said we ruined the movie by laughing during the funny parts.

All avant-garde literature is either Protestant (Hemingway et al) or Catholic (Nabokov et al) and David Foster Wallace killed himself because he had Protestant ethics and Catholic talent.

It's nearly impossible to be an important artist, and it's even harder to be good while doing it. Ozzy did both, and he is dead. The party in Hell tonight will be the greatest since the Fall of Man.

The first long interview with the mysterious Clair Noto, one of the 1st women comics writers, who wrote the cult fave Red Sonja series in the late 1970s, and about whom little is known. She tees off on Roy Thomas, who she accuses of stealing credit, & Frank Thorne, who she detested. Juicy stuff!

“There Isn’t A Word of Truth In Any of That”- A Conversation With The Elusive & Prolific Clair Noto on Hollywood, Marvel, and Her Erasure from Red Sonja
Who is Clair Noto? Clair Noto is a footnote in the history of Marvel Comics. Superciliously deigned as a co-writer (which she denies), lazily written off (if written about at all) by supposed fans …
