resonance, of "believing oneself to be true," of the honest vulnerability. It was real to the actor in some way. I strive to make proficient, available, and consistent those moments for my own craft. It is truly a never-ending journey of honing, and I hope you do the same. 💪❤️

Yet, you remember well those moments in stories where the acting was profoundly real. The ones that stay with you for a long, long time. In my opinion, those performances are the moments captured of an actor who was "real-ly" experiencing the moment. To whatever degree of 🧵

When a performance feels "performative," you can generally tell. I believe it is because the actor is, indeed, "acting." Of course, it's also impossible for these stories to be 100% real to an actor, in the moment, all the time - after all, we are in a booth. A set. A stage. 🧵

"Hi-yah!" is 😠. "Hmph!" is 😤. "SHKECHIRYKAH!!!" is 😍. I'm kidding but not. Are you infusing your auditions with physicality? Perhaps not every audition with a punch, sure, but are you creating stories that include physicality? @coryyee.com does. That's why he stays winning. 😏❤️ Come move with us!

Make professional friends.

We're not selling staplers. And we're definitely not just saying words into a microphone. Undoubtably, in order for these words to be believable, they must first resonate in some way inside of you. You must believe them first. It's gotta be YOU. ❤️

You know how you sometimes say to yourself, 'maybe...?' I'm here to tell you - it's a scam. And it will always be a scam. 🥰😆 In this instance, it's a hacked account - which means you must pay close attention even if they're a mutual. Have a good week! 💪❤️

Voice acting is physical. Especially during auditions where it enhances the performance with another dimension and context of the story you're telling. Whether it's a serene calmness or chaotic swordplay, physicality is mandatory. And @coryyee.com would love to help with that. 😤 RedScythe.com

Of course, when auditions are sent specifically to you by your agent, roster, director, client, etc., they should be prioritized. ALL of it completed. 😤 But none of it will be any good if you sacrifice your energy, health, and heart for the job. Take good care of yourself. ❤️

Inside these few hours you've set aside for voice acting in your schedule, I'm firmly convinced that the more productive thing to do is to hone in, dig deep, and go hard on these three auditions, rather than spreading yourself out to "cover" the 17 auditions you've found online.

I'm a major proponent of using your own voice for acting. 😤 But when you're brought in for incidentals/walla, you're going to need more than one. And it will have to be believable. Choosing which voice(s) to use and how to discover/find them are also part of the work. In this workshop,

Folks will sometimes ask, "what's the one project you want to get into?" I say "Something like this" (in this video, it's Expedition 33). A complex, rich story with nuanced characters, progression, and heart. Grateful for having been a part of many. 🙏❤️ Gotta work harder. 😤💪

The biggest lesson is to keep ourselves open to various possibilities and how happiness may pivot, change, and evolve. And when engaged with a yes-and philosophy, we're likely to get closer to happiness. Whatever it may be, however you get there, I hope you find (and pursue) your happiness. ❤️

What the audience sees and hears is, indeed, "acting." However, what we do in the booth, on the stage, in front of the camera, must be real. To us. Effortlessly believable, because you, the actor, are courageously willing to bear your vulnerability for all to see. That's acting.

So that you can confidently know and understand those sides of you. Honestly. Authentically. And when combined with willingness to be vulnerable, it's absolute magic. It's believable. Acting is a study of humans. A study of YOU. You must know yourself. 😤 That's self-awareness.

Continually study and expand your self-awareness. Take classes. Because every workshop is an opportunity to explore an unknown side of you. To add to the archive of your self-awareness. It's an opportunity to revisit and fortify the sides of you that you already know as well. ❤️

Not with what you can do and how well you can do it - because everyone is expected to be good - but with who you are and what you, the person, bring to the table. To the character as a fellow human being, to the production as a colleague. People are hired, not actors. ❤️

In every opportunity, the casting is taking a chance on you. Some level of a risk. For some, it's a no-brainer casting choice because they KNOW this actor can 100% deliver. With others, especially those they don't know, it's a risk. Because they don't know. INFORM them. 4/

Everyone is expected to be good. If I'm casting for an archer in this game, and your "about me" section tells me about your enthusiasm about archery, I'm going to be interested because you bring honest experience and opinion that is shared with the character. 3/

Instead, write about YOU. It's an "About Me" section. Not what you can do, not what skills you have, but WHO YOU ARE. Not an essay, but some sort of a narrative that lets the visitor know more about you. In some depth of vulnerability (within your own boundaries, of course). 2/

Do not start your "About Me" section of your website with "I'm a professional voice actor." Because of course you are! 😤 Unless you've spent thousands of dollars on SEO, that person did not arrive at your website by googling "voice actor." They intentionally went there. 🧵
