#LFJL welcomes the transfer of Khaled Mohamed Ali Al Hishri to #ICC custody after his arrest in Germany earlier this year. Al Hishri, a senior member of the Special Deterrence Force, is accused of overseeing torture, rape, and other serious crimes at Mitiga Prison.

The #ASP24 started today in The Hague at a critical time for the #ICC and its work in Libya with the surrender of Al-Hishri expected soon. #LFJL is here to advocate for the most pressing issues for victims in #Libya.

The #ICC Deputy Prosecutor briefed the UNSC yesterday on the progress of the OTP’s investigation in the Libya situation. LFJL welcomes the decision to extend investigations in Libya beyond May 2026, in line with LFJL’s and our partners’ recommendations (link to report below)

Last week, the #Human_Rights Council adopted the draft report of Libya’s Universal Periodic Review (#UPR). During the review, 100 UN Member States intervened, making 280 recommendations to #Libya.

#Libya’s Universal Periodic Review (#UPR) will take place tomorrow, 11 November, at the #UN Human Rights Council. This review is an important moment to assess Libya’s human rights situation and highlight the areas where action is urgently needed.

Last week, the ICC confirmed that Italy breached its obligation under the Rome Statute by failing to surrender Libyan suspect Osama Elmasry Njeem.

1/3 Yesterday, the International Criminal Court officially requested #Italy to provide explanations on its failure to surrender #Almasri, a suspect with an outstanding ICC warrant that was arrested in Turin on 19 January, then released + transferred back to #Libya by the Italian government.
