What incredible, wonderful news: Maria is free!!!!! And with her, another 120 political prisoners from Belarus. Her sister Tatsiana Khomich has already been able to speak to her on the phone. We hope that we will soon be able to hug her – after more than five years in prison.

Tomorrow, Saturday 15 November, two powerful and deeply moving productions will be presented at the Voices Festival in Berlin: 𝗔𝗕𝗖 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗳𝗲 (The ABC of Exclamations) and 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀.

Poet Vera Burlak brings 𝗔𝗕𝗖 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗳𝗲 (The ABC of Exclamations) to life together with her son Kastuś Žybul, animation filmmaker Monika Nuber, sound artist Georgia Koumará and translator Thomas Weiler.

Poet Vera Burlak and her 19-year-old son Kastuś Žybul, who lives with autism, have created something unique: 'ABC der Ausrufe' (The ABC of Exclamations), an artistic interpretation of the Belarusian alphabet.

»𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗧𝗦« is a virtual gallery presenting recent artistic projects and initiatives by Belarusian authors exploring migration, memory, identity, and borders through the lens of nature and field research.

𝗔𝗕𝗖 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗳𝗲 (»ABC of Exclamations«) is an artistic interpretation of the Belarusian alphabet by poet Vera Burlak and her son Kastuś Žybul, who lives with autism.

📅 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟬𝟯.𝟭𝟭.𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 ⏰ 𝟮𝟭:𝟬𝟬 Theater Rampe, Stuttgart-Süd 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘂𝘀: 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗮𝘃𝗮 Maria Kalesnikava, the founder of the Stuttgart cultural association InterAKT Initiative and our dear friend and colleague, is imprisoned in Belarus as a political prisoner.

At ECLAT 2022, Ukrainian artist Viktoriia Vitrenko presented her passion project, LIMBO, which explores themes of loneliness, isolation, hope, and the urgency of creating art in a political context.

The existence of people in exile is almost always mediated by their families: we leave them behind with little hope for reunion, flee together and watch relationships transform under pressure, or form new bonds – through unexpected love or pragmatic necessity.

On 21 June 2025, Siarhei Tsikhanouski and 14 other political prisoners were released from detention in Belarus. What had long seemed impossible has now become a reality. This release demonstrates that: Diplomacy works when human life is prioritised.

»𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀« is a quiet yet powerful reflection on closeness despite distance. In her debut personal project, Belarusian journalist and photographer Aksana Dabryianets shares video calls with her grandmother, capturing moments when the signal breaks, her face freezes and words blur.

This spring, platformB launched its first Open Call to support digital projects by artists in exile, focusing on themes of migration, forced displacement, and the current political, cultural, and social realities in Europe and beyond.
