My Wings Blu Ray arrived earlier today. Checking it out tomorrow morning along with a run through of some favourites from the Pure McCartney compilation.

Another great 1977 album. Always a favourite. One of Linda’s best. The cover was a poster on my teenage bedroom wall for a few years.

Now playing An outstanding album from 1976 with some great guitar work by Mike Oldfield.

I just wasn’t made for these times Fantastic. Such a lovely song, but with a very difficult theme of social alienation. Very heartfelt vocal. Where does he get all of this from - He is a genius isn’t he. #petsounds25

Here today Another uptempo number. Good vocals and great instrumentation. Love the bass and piano. The instrumentation on all the songs is something else. #petsounds25

God only knows The greatest song ever written. McCartney thinks so. Who are we to argue. Amazing vocal and supporting horn. #petsounds25

Sloop John B A slight folk song raised by the fabulous vocals and arrangement into something much better. Fantastic. #petsounds25

Let’s go away for a while (Instrumental) First miss for me. I’m not a great fan of instrumentals and this does nothing for me. It’s a disappointment after the class set of 5 songs. Pet sounds has fantastic lyrics. This doesn’t have any - a mistake. #petsounds25

I’m waiting for the day Great drums again to kick off the song. Great shifts in the song and then the chorus comes in. Again good use of the strings and flutes to support the song. #petsounds25

Don’t talk put your head on my shoulder Fantastic. Another slow burner. Top notch vocals and great lyrics. Great use of strings to support the song. Was that the first time in a beach boys LP. A standout song for me. #petsounds25

That’s not me Bit more pacy and lots of mood changes in the song which makes it very interesting. Great vocals and harmonies. Already a trademark of the album. #petsounds25

You still believe in me Lovely ballad. Harmonies again spot on. Very other worldly especially with the piano in the background. Not sure I’m a fan of the car horn in the fade out. #petsounds25

Wouldn’t it be nice Great start to the song. Slow initially and then with the drum and the harmonies the song really takes off. Fantastic start to the album. Makes you immediately want more. First standout for me. #petsounds25

Just doing some pre listening for tonight. Focussing on the pet sounds box set disc 3. That has just vocal versions of all the LP tracks. The voices are simply stunning. Might even be better than the finished tracks. #petsounds25

That was me Always like a McCartney storyline song. Even better when it’s based in Liverpool. Great bass and drums to move it along. The decending baseline is fantastic. #maccamemory07

Vintage clothes Another strong start on the piano. I really like like McCartney based piano songs and he doesn’t do many in his later work. That’s a missed opportunity I think. Fairly motors along in the last part of the song. Nice guitar work as well. #maccamemory07

It was Tubular Bells, closely followed by the Beatles Blue double album.

It’s a good album but as ever with Paul if he used the stuff in the filing cabinet it could have been classic. #maccaredrose

Medley - Hold Me Tight/Lazy Dynamite/Hands of Love/Power Cut Despite great vocals the Medley tries to replicate Abbey Road, and just doesn’t make it. A misfire. Get rid of this and the two previous songs and replace with the additional tracks added to the 1993 CD reissue. #maccaredrose

Loup Not my favourite. I’m afraid I’ve never liked it and there are so many better songs on the ditched double album. A definite mistake here. #maccaredrose

When the Night Good piano and guitar introduction to what turns out to be a so so song. Not his best, but then again not the worst. But better songs on the ditched double. Not sure how it made the cut - the story of many wings albums. #maccaredrose

Single Pigeon A gem of a song. Always loved it. Could easily have sat on the White Album. Just wanted an extra verse to make it last longer. #maccaredrose
