This Koala was in a small clump of trees between 2 Powerful owls, only about 12m away from each of them! Luckily it looked too big for a Powl, but as it's one of the Powls non-breeding roost area's you'd think the Koala would have sensed the danger. #wildoz #birds #brisbane

The female POwl found herself a quieter spot today. Unusually, she's been closer to a nest tree recently. It could be coincidence & it's far too early but we've already seen the male checking out the hollow at dusk, as she watched on. It'll be interesting to see if a new pairing breed earlier.

This female Powerful Owl finds a new roost in a busy-ish area of a Brisbane park. Females are often more alert than the males, this one's partner is a particularly laid back POwl. She's new to the area, and I think she's a young bird. #birds #wildoz

We've noticed Powlets roosting alone, not trilling at dusk or interacting with parents. Wondering if it's an age thing we visited a local Powlet last night. No parents, but it did trill, once when mobbed by a drongo and then when it went to hunt. We were super excited to see it swoop a possum #birds

A male Powerful Owl in a Brisbane park this morning. Although often roosting together today the female was in an odd spot over a busy path, visible to the mobbing Noisy Miners. She's a new partner, sadly his original mate died last year, maybe she's still getting used to the best roost spots. #birds

New Powlet! I think this one is a female as its face mask feathers go beyond the edge of its face. There was a paper that said you could distinguish the female and male juveniles this way, and I've noticed a difference in face mask feathers between chicks, even in the same family. #birds #wildoz

After traipsing through the bush on a hot Brisbane morning we took a wrong turn, made a short cut, found a great looking hollow, investigated scat, and then looked up! We've been checking in on this family of POwls after an adult was found injured a couple of months ago. For the 1st time we saw 2 adults, one roosting close to the almost fully grown chicks, and the other 350m away. Both Owlets looked well and it was good to hear them trilling loudly at dusk #birds

An Owlet and adult Powerful Owl, one looking more alert than the other. The owlet's sibling was roosting alone 30m away but joined them at dusk, triling loudly, playing with bark, and head bobbing to get a sense of everything around it. Always special to watch. #birds #wildoz #brisbane

We checked in on the Powlets who may be without an adult after a nearby adult was taken into care, due to poisoning. They've moved to their non-breeding roost, and although we didn't see an adult, they are being fed, and they have been moved, so at least one adult is around #birds #wildoz #brisbane
