The next stages of the SPR must incorporate people in the last year of life and include the option to complete advance care planning within the delivery of the NHS App.

It’s been almost two years since the HSJ published our piece highlighting how dying people are being failed by the NHS’s approach to sharing information. Unfortunately, from what we hear through the people we support, not much has changed.

Dying people are being failed by the NHS's approach to sharing information
Usha Grieve explains how in the realm of digital health data, the spotlight on the Federated Data Platform overshadows the sluggish progress in enhancing electronic end-of-life records, hindering meaningful patient-centric change and necessitating urgent action

Good to hear
@sharonbrennan.bsky.social
@nationalvoices.bsky.social
championing the crucial role that VCSE’s will play in realising the shift to community and brilliantly making the point that the 10YP care plan target must not result in tokenistic recording of patient wishes.

As assisted dying laws are being considered across the British Isles, our latest blog explores what information and support people need to understand the law and have conversations with healthcare professionals about assisted dying.

This is a great example of what we do at Compassion in Dying - find practical solutions to help people navigate decisions when they're not being listened to. We see lots of examples that show how policy is good but the gap between that and practice can be vast.

This is such an important point. We can't 'sort' dying just by investing in services (important though that is). We need to invest in community: its understanding, choices and agency.

We need to make sure what comes out of the 10 year plan for end of life care includes a new focus on listening to and foregrounding the wishes of people. 👀 Some thoughts from me 👇

In 2023 my lovely former colleague, Pavi Brar, & I identified a gap – there was no space for those beginning their career in the VCSE sector to meet & grow together. This acted as the catalyst for

New findings from
@mariecurieuk.bsky.social
@nuffieldtrust.bsky.social
and Health Economics Unit make for an important read. Current health spending for people in their last year of life is disproportionately distributed towards hospital care rather than primary and community care services.
