I resist getting caught up in pundit thought bubble politics bc most of them have never actually worked on a campaign but fine here goes… 1. Pro-choice policies are very popular - the polling doesn’t actually support Klein’s supposition. Frankly we should run more on pro-choice platforms.

I will simply say this: Charlie Kirk said a lot of things, easily looked up, that I don’t think the Catholic Church would or should feel comfortable endorsing with this kind of unfettered enthusiasm.

When we build the hall of heroes in the after times let’s not forget the parents of toddlers helping each other figure out how to watch Bluey without a Disney Plus subscription.

Jake is a doing a good job explaining the stakes here. I grew up watching Disney. As did most of us. Their movies were mostly all a play on a central theme of fight the bad guys and be brave. If Disney leadership caves to Trump for money - the legacy of betrayal will haunt the company forever.

Pritzker: What's at stake here is free speech. It's our constitution and our way of life. Do we really want the president intimidating people, organizations to get others fired? People ought to be standing up and speaking out.

I would bet all my 25 years in politics that if you polled “do you support or oppose the President cancelling late night talk shows bc a comedian disagrees with him” that the oppose numbers will be off the charts everywhere. There I saved everyone $60k and any excuse for not speaking up right now.

To paraphrase my boss last week - it is time to get real fucking loud for America.

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say. This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand. All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

I know we were told that Trump could use "crime" to restore his POWER, STRENGTH, and MANLINESS, but his job approval on crime is 42%-49% and -26 with independents. This data is consistent with many other polls these past few weeks.

I generally leave Chiefs fans alone but this is embarrassing

For those who are part of the backlash - please point me to a concrete example of Donald Trump (or JD Vance or Stephen Miller) doing something to calm the country’s nerves. Be specific. Living in a post-truth era is a choice for some folks right now - we choose not to live there.

To honor his legacy, I will direct flags across Illinois to half-staff.   My thoughts are with Brenda, Brad, Elizabeth, and his entire family. May his memory be a blessing.

Now more than ever, we should channel that spirit and resolve to live as Governor Edgar did: with honesty, integrity, and an enduring respect for all.   He will live on in the incalculable number of lives he touched and in the stronger institutions he helped build.

I was lucky enough to consider him a friend and mentor and have found myself drawing from his words of wisdom on countless occasions. His commitment to reaching across the aisle in service of the people of Illinois undeniably made our state better.

MK and I are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Governor Jim Edgar. Governor Edgar was a model public servant, a devoted father and husband, and an honest and honorable man.

So let me explain the GOP playbook when they start losing on an issue. They give pressers like this and say “we have the winning message on crime - just yield to what we want to do” and they hope a few gullible talkers will start parroting that talking point and citing it as fact.
