Over the weekend, I had to get my car towed to the dealership. I rode for an hour in the truck cab with the driver. We chatted the whole time. Turns out we had a lot in common. He loves traveling. He loves meeting new people but also loves being alone. Music has saved his life more than once. (1/x)

Many years ago, I found myself arguing with Te-Nehisi Coates about something in a comments section, and he said to me, "Your certitude is a red flag. I'm going to exit this conversation." That always stuck with me, and it's how I feel about pretty much every political discussion I've had since.
