Purely speculative, but I'm guessing that there must be a non-insignificant overlap between people who are dependent on LLMs for decision-making vs people who find delayed variable reward appealing ("I wonder what it's gonna generate"). I.e., LLMs are microtransaction systems in a trench coat...?

There is a big difference between "people who are 'scared' of AI and don't want to learn new things" and "people who have deep moral objections to AI's underpinnings, impacts, and the systems of power behind it." It's wild to me that institutions pushing AI adoption don't seem to understand this.

This is one of the worst violations of research ethics I've ever seen. Manipulating people in online communities using deception, without consent, is not "low risk" and, as evidenced by the discourse in this Reddit post, resulted in harm. Great thread from Sarah, and I have additional thoughts. 🧵

Everyone who's actively posting stuff on LinkedIn (e.g., sharing new publication, announcing new job) that I've talked to says that they hate using the platform and having to put on a "professional" mask... yet we collectively choose to be a part of this performance. There's a paper here somewhere.

The upward socioeconomic mobility afforded by a tech career in the past two decades is unparalleled. But I wonder if this trend has a broader societal implications, i.e., high-earning professionals have a vested interest in the system and benefit from maintaining the status quo.
