Cancelled creative projects never vanish from the mind of people that worked on them. I am haunted by dozens of games that only I can see.

I often think about the cancelled game project I worked on for disabled children. It really sucked to see the funding pulled.

“The game itself is pretty great” This type of writing is frustrating. The games industry often disregards terrible associations in games as immaterial. For players it’s like being served food in a restaurant with a dog poop garnish. ‘If you don’t like dog poop just eat around it’

You never truly know how much work's involved in making video games until you're in the thick of it. Sure you can have an idea, but even the smallest ideas end up way more complex than we realise. Trick is, keep chipping away. Foundation. Core. Close loops. Compare progress. 😤

Me to my game devs: You need to rest. You need to have downtime and work-life balance. You need to set boundaries for yourself and be a human outside work. My brain: Not you, though. Me: Oh, God, of course not me. Haha. Can you imagine?

The concept stage is the most creative part! It's the "no wrong ideas" bit where any wild thought can pop up and get riffed on and expanded by others! It's where you explore scope and themes and style! You can't "efficiency" it away!
