The Graduate Center Music Department’s Music in Midtown concert series begins this month! Music in Midtown is a series of lunchtime concerts featuring the program's renowned faculty, alumni and outstanding performers selected from students in the DMA in Performance, as well as noted guest artists.

On Friday, August 29th at 6pm, DMA pianist Joseph Vaz performs a recital in Elebash Hall. The program will feature solo piano works by Ed Bland, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Akin Euba, Olivier Messiaen, Art Tatum, Alexander Scriabin, and Igor Stravinsky.

On Monday, May 12th at 6pm, mezzo-soprano Patrice Eaton of the DMA Performance program performs in Elebash Recital Hall with pianist Jason Wirth.  The program will feature works by Brittney Elizabeth Boykin, Henri Duparc, Ricky Ian Gordon, George Frideric Handel, and Gustav Mahler.

On Monday, May 5th at 6pm, DMA violinist Samuel Andonian performs in Elebash Recital Hall with pianist Jinhee Park. The program will include Aurora (2025) by Giancarlo Latta, and sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, and Eugène Ysaÿe.

On Friday, May 2nd at 6pm, members of the Ph.D. Program in Music Theory present a program of solo and chamber works in Elebash Hall. Performers include: Tlacaélel Cáceres, Hang Ki Choi, Rebecca Moranis, Nathan Pell, Vlad Praskurnin, Jiyeoung Sim, Joseph Vaz, and Tengyue Zhang.

An evening of guitar-quartet music from this century will be presented on Wednesday, April 30th at 7:30pm in Segal Theatre, featuring the Nuntempe Guitar Ensamble performing works by GC composers Santiago Beis, Evan Cartwright, Teté Leguía, Georg Friedrich Haas, Cecilia Pereya, and Zachary Reid.

On Monday, April 28th at 6pm, DMA flutist Meera Gudipati performs a program on flute and bansuri in Elebash Recital Hall. The recital will feature traditional Indian music, Les Folies d’Espagne by Marin Marais, Jhula Jhule by Reena Esmail, and Piya Ki’s Dance by Meera Gudipati.

On Friday, April 25th at 6pm, DMA cellist Hannah Rubin performs in Elebash Recital Hall. The program will feature Benjamin Britten’s Suite No. 3 for solo cello, Andrea Casarrubios’ Seven: Song of Isolation, and Franz Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata with pianist Luis Ortiz.
