I looks like a drone image, doesn’t it? Of a rockweed intertidal with a scientist doing frame analyses. At least, that was what I saw 😂 At the Autumn Exhibition. But it is a hand-knotted wool rug if a person cleaning a plastic bag. But that IS a rockweed intertidal, of that I am certain 💙

Days and days on the field, collecting rockweeds along gradients and across zones; hours and hours in the lab, shaking, sieving and bottling - and this is what we end up with. It looks like such a tiny result, but it is SO much work behind it 😅

🌏 'Nature-led and science-based.' We believe that our seabed's recovery should be a natural one; allowing it a chance to REWILD in balance with the environmental conditions of that area and without human intervention/active restoration, will result in a more robust and resilient ecosystem recovery.

Greetings from Arctic Norway, 70.7°N. Tomorrow we go to one of our Ascophyllum sites to measure Asco properties, identify all species in frames and associated with the rockweed. Or aim is to compare structure, function and biodiversity in harvested areas with the unharvested control.

Doing what I am not - absolutely not - good at 😫, which is redesigning mesh bags and getting them ready for Ascophyllum nodosum rockweed “hunting” in Arctic Norway (to capture the rockweeds and all associated species). Spent hours - hours - just getting my head around the borrowed sowing machine 😅

A good question. According to our constitution in Norway, we have an obligation to take care of our nature for the benefit of our descendants. So it is the responsibility of our government, and all of us.

The data are reported to the Norwegian Environment Agency. We are not reporting data to SeagrassSpotter. But seagrass point data from a variety of projects are reported to Artskart, which again delivers data to GBIF

We are monitoring several stations along the Norwegian North, Norwegian and (together with our daughter company Akvaplan-niva) Arctic sea.

Then we are done for thins year 🌱 1 555 data points recorded 💪🏼 Within a selection of seagrass meadows in the North and Norwegian Sea. Now for a small beak at the office before going to Arctic Norway for Ascophyllum field work 🌱

This underlines the importance of not focus solely on climate change mitigations. Habitat restoration is important as a tool to restore biodiversity, ecosystem structure, function and resilience - and thereby ecosystem services

We should be careful with stating that aquaculture can restore environments. Aquaculture generally includes specimens that are selected to grow fast and provide high food/feed content or (for algae) have little biofouling, which is not necessarily what the wild nature needs.

Og jeg forstår virkelig at dette er tøft for fiskerne, det er jo levebrødet deres som rammes her. Men jeg ser på det slik: skal vi stoppe nå eller skal vi stoppe om en liten stund. Hvis vi stopper nå, så kanskje vi om litt kan ta opp igjen denne næringen - det er jo det vi håper på

Ja, det er dessverre ikke sånn at vi kan gjøre kun en ting. Det har nok gått så langt nå at vi må gjøre flere ting - også rensing av fjorden for nitrogen. Fiskestopp er ett tiltak, så må vi jobbe videre med flere ting. NIVA har noen råd til 6 tiltak for å redde fjorden: www.niva.no/nyheter/seks...
