🍼 The European Commission is in the final stages of restricting some of the most harmful chemicals used in childcare products, nine years after the issue was identified.   This is being done using a fast-track procedure under REACH, but it has not been as fast as expected.

📑 Today, the Environmental Audit Committee published its report on PFAS, delivering a damning verdict on the UK’s approach.   PFAS are a group of over 10,000 highly persistent chemicals, and exposure has been linked to adverse health impacts, including certain cancers & reduced fertility.

👓 Chemical Watch recently published a long-read article on how chemical legislation in the UK has fared in the 5 years since Brexit. 🐌According to their analysis, both civil society and industry take issue with how the transition has been handled, both highlighting how slowly regulation has moved.

Today the UK government published its response to a consultation held in 2024 on the alternative transitional registration model (ATRm). The registration model requires even less information from industry than set out in the original consultation.
