ICYMI: During Farm Bill markup, I offered an amendment to allow SNAP recipients to use benefits for hot foods. Currently, items like rotisserie chicken, soup & other prepared foods are ineligible for purchase with benefits. This outdated policy can make the difference between a family going hungry.

In Torrington at McCall Behavioral Health for a legislative roundtable to strengthen our rural safety net. It was important to hear from stakeholders who provide high-quality care & understand that the obstacles faced by providers & patients in rural areas are vastly different than in urban areas.

More from Farm Bill: Puerto Rico residents rely on a fixed block grant for food assistance called the Nutrition Assistance Program. I offered an amendment to transition the island to the federal SNAP program to ensure equitable treatment & be more responsive to residents in need of food assistance.

What a remarkable display of research, critical thinking, public speaking skills and self confidence as these young scholars ended Black History Month by competing in the Wtby Black Giving Circle Juneteenth Oratorical Contest.
